Bidrage med feedbackWe've had great experiences at Kelly's in Red Wing, so we stopped off here when we were in Lake City. On a Sunday at 4pm, the place was pretty crowded inside; seats were offered offered on the patio, but as the temperature was in the 50s, I'm not sure if many were taking the offer. The TVs over the bar were showing the Packers game and bowling, which seemed quite regionally appropriate. Service was consistently slow throughout our visit. We had a tiny high top and it became increasingly crowded with dirty dishes and platters that weren't picked up as more things came out. My husband had a stack of signed receipts from previous customers that were sitting on the room divide inches away from him, and they weren't picked up until near the end of our visit. The food, however, was delicious. We started off with cheese curds. My husband ordered a beer and I had a cider. For our main dishes, I had the margherita flatbread while my husband had the Barge, what they call their all-meat pizza. Everything was excellent. My husband had a lot leftover, and when he asked for a take-out container, he was given a standard Styrofoam box. Not the best conveyance for pizza, as pieces had to be stacked, making the bottom layer steam and go soggy. I think we'd come here again based on the food and the nice vibe, but I hope the service issues are fixed soon.
Go to sit on the patio-maybe. These reviews must be fake. 5 people and $140 later and I couldn't be more disappointed. Nashville hot chicken sandwich-served as a flat dry tiny processed patty. No hot no sauce. It shouldn't be on the menu. Burger was ok. Nachos were small with barely any toppings. The smoked pork tasted good, but the portions are so small it was sad. So over rated, over priced, small portions. Slow service-probably due to not enough workers. Do better! Keep driving.....
I 've been here a bunch of times and have always enjoyed the daily soup and salads. Today I tried the Norwegian Salmon Salad made with mixed greens . The mixed greens were 98% iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of romaine. The salmon was WAY overcooked. I pointed this out when the salad was dropped off but there was no offer by the server to replace it. My dining companion 's Caesar salad was also mostly iceberg lettuce, not romaine as per tradition and as advertised. The grilled chicken was overcooked and dry. The soup was good but, uncharacteristically, there was only about a half cup of it. And it came out AFTER the salad. When the server happened by again I asked for the manager. She defended the plate saying there is no problem this is the mixed greens product we get from US Foods. US Foods doesn 't does not appear to offer an iceberg/romaine mix. Why would they? She did acknowledge the Caesar was made wrong but there was no offer to reduce the cost or comp it only that she 'll check with the kitchen. There were signs up soliciting help for all positions so perhaps they 're undergoing a transition and the kitchen staff and manager are...new.
Kellys lake house has a really fun atmosphere. It was pretty busy, and we were able to get a decent table looking over the lake. We got seated very quickly and our order taken . The good, everyone for the most part enjoyed their food. There was brisket, a burger and a rueben that my companions enjoyed. The fries and the onion rings and the wine were all great. The not so good, I ordered a black bean burger that was not very hot, a bit dry and had a mangled bun with all the lettuce spilling out all over the plate and missing a couple of the components, I know that the Black bean burger couldnt have been too much work to heat up, but a little more care could have been taken. It was totally a bummer. And my fries were missing. But I got those fairly quickly. The cooks really didnt give it the attention it should have had. It seems like i should have gotten a special order so at least it would have been decent. This was too bad because everyone else had pretty good food and it was a fun evening.
Picture this: slight breeze in the air, perfectly partly cloudy as the sun is setting on another beautiful summer day. Your view is picturesque Lake Pepin, surrounded by rolling hills on either side of the Mississippi, whether its the Wisconsin side or the Minnesota side. But of course, the views are the most delicious part of Kelly's on the Lake. My friends and I stopped in here after an afternoon exploring Lake City, hoping to get a table lakeside to enjoy our dinner. At 6, we were told it was about an hour wait. Determined to sit outside, we agreed, put our name down to be called, and walked along the lake until 6:45p, expecting that we'd have to wait 15 more minutes at most. To our surprise, we were seated either by serendipity that we arrived at the same time that a table was ready or the hostess forgot to call us if a table was available before our expected hour wait was finished. Once we got seated, we could tell just how busy it was we had seen the staff pretty much running around like chicken with their heads cut off on a busy Saturday evening during dinner rush and a beautiful day, but just how busy? Most of the tables around us were without food or drink and clearly had been sitting there for a while. They are clearly understaffed for how many patrons visit, especially on nice days, and while we were patient and waited (can't say the same for some unempathetic pricks next to us) management may want to consider making service more manageable for both the staff and the patrons. I ordered a walleye sandwich, and while I want to say it was worth the wait, tastewise, it...really wasn't. It was huge, about the size of my face, but aside from having a nice light batter texture, there wasn't much seasoning at all. This is slightly remediated by adding tartar sauce, but my dish came out without it by mistake, and I had to wait until the server came by again to get some. In addition, the fillet wasn't well deboned, and I had a few small bones pop up as I took bites. The onion rings had a great taste though, and were perfectly fried with a light beer batter that didn't taste too greasy or heavy. I could've (and should have) eaten many more as that was the highlight of the food. All in all come here for the views. At best, this place is a 2 star, but the pleasure of eating outside with Lake Pepin as your view makes it worth it.
