To put this place into perspective regards expectations go with none, it’s an old cantina style place, opposite a great little fish market that also sells fruits and vegetables (tied garlic plait €8) We me the new owner, Rodrigue retired a year ago and he was so welcoming, explained the Plato do dia (dish of the day) in amazing English, probably too clearly. Anyway food wise, we had a good mix, two dishes of the day as starters shared, clams and bread and sardines paste. Tasty and basic pure tastes. Mains were a mix of meaty steaks and sea bream which were cooked perfectly and simply. We were brought a couple of litre jugs of wine and as the designated driver I had a large bottle of water, all brought without huge ceremony but all tasty. In short a basic cantina, good basic food with incredible value and engaged service at its core. If you’re polite and open as a customer you will get to experience a slice of Portugal rather than the pre packaged places on the front of the various strips. Heartily recommended. Ridiculously cheap. Not really a desert place.
Had a fantastic sea bream there. If you go for that fish ask for it to be escalada wich is cut in two halfs for the grill. The veggies were also cooked to perfection. What a nice meal. In lunch be sure to go early or you wont get table. Dinner is more relaxed, depending on the day of week.
We always visit here once or twice each holiday. You can be sure of a warm welcome and the chef is passionate about his food. It's great value and good traditional food . Last night the restaurant was full of locals enjoying pig's trotters! We had fab sea bream, chicken, steak. We also loved the crab pate which came as part of the cover. Looking forward to our next visit.
Fresh fish of the day, good raw products cooked with love. Nice salads! Warm atmosphere, proud owner/chef and friendly staff. We always visit Rodrigues when we are in Portugal!!
Very authentic cuisine and reasonable prices. The owner spends time at each table and is obviously proud of his service. The staff is great, personally, I enjoy it more when English is not readily spoken. We will go back frequently.
