Holiday Inn Express Suites La Porte, An Ihg

This hotel really needs to get it together. We booked three nights over a week in advance. After a long drive, we arrived around 6:30 to find out they had given our room away because they overbooked themselves. We were informed that there was nothing in the area with vacancy due to a festival. After hours of looking, our family ended up having to drive almost an hour in the opposite direction to find a hotel. We were able to stay the next two nights at this hotel as planned. Our room had a pervasive smell of marijuana and could have been much cleaner. We would have just moved hotels completely had we not needed to be in the area. Very disappointed in the overall experience.

Clean, simple rooms with nicer TVs and nice and thick walls! Sure, it's not a resort and although it's across the street from the lake, at least half the rooms don't have any view, but the continental breakfast is better than expected (especially the hot cinnamon rolls). Our room had it's own whirlpool, which was nice, but the pool by the lobby doors does not have a big one to hang out in.Walkability: You can walk across the street to the lakefront and there are a couple of local restaurants nearby but the main downtown area requires driving.

The hotel is new and clean enough, but it is *considerably* more expensive than other options in LaPorte, and is only marginally better, if at all, over the other nearby hotels.The rooms are completely unventilated (save for a bathroom exhaust fan that doesn't do much and only functions when the lights are fully on) and the windows don't open.The walls are paper thin and we (and our kids) were awakened to a travelling high school baseball team in the room next door chanting and doing calisthenics at 5:45 in the morning.Rooms are carpeted which is gross.Continental breakfast was above average, though the seating options are poor.We were staying for several days and the counter staff reacted rudely/unhelpfully to the above concerns, and generally were unsympathetic and in some cases incompetent.

Seems like a new build. Across the way from a beautiful lake. We really enjoyed staying. The front desk personnel helped us find a number of things including dining and shopping. We will stay again.Rooms: Seems like it is fairly new. Very clean.Nearby activities: A lot of outdoor activities.Safety: One feels very safe here.Walkability: A lot of paths for walking or hiking.

Clean rooms. Modern updates. Full Buffet Breakfast. Easy Access. This is a very nice scenic location along the lake. There is a slip/harbor by the water. Plenty of top notch Restaurants around the area. The area is safe.Rooms: 5/5
