Bidrage med feedbackThe first time I came to this place, it had barely opened.. I had an okay experience. Sadly, this time reminded me why I hadn't come back for so long. I was hungry, this place was on the way home so I stopped. I ordered churros locos and a carne asada torta with extra jalapeños.
Loved the elotes and the pico this place was delicious and next time I'm in SD I will stop by to try something new!
My go-to fruiteria! They have great tortas and great smoothies. I always order the chamango (so, so tasty) and occasionally order the tostilocos. Slowly but surely trying everything on the menu at least once!
I used to love this place for the past few years and have referred many friends and coworkers. Unfortunately that's not the case anymore. The quality of food has deterred, each time I went back, it's worse! The staff isn't as friendly anymore either. They use to have better quality lomo until last year they changed their product. Also, pricing has gone up quite a bit, I understand inflation, but shouldn't mark it up more than 35% within six months, that's a little steep. They've always charged .50 card charge, but it would be better to include that on your price. Personally I hate seeing an additional charge for using a card at places. That's why the majority of places don't do this. As mentioned before the tortas, elotes, and other foods we've tried at Chuchees have always been great until the past few visits. Today was the deal breaker, the lomo was so overcooked that it was hard to bite into and enjoy, it was way to tough. I ended up throwing part of it away, which I never did before. They are good portions so you can save half for later, not this time. Unfortunately I won't be back, which is sad, because I like supporting family run businesses.
I love, love, LOVE the charm and simplicity of places like this. As a kid I spent five years living in Panama and as an adult I've been absolutely obsessed with Mexico. In Tijuana it seems that there are places like this on every corner but in San Diego they're mostly found in certain pockets of a few neighborhoods. I'm lucky enough to live in one of those pockets and my first trip to Chuchees will not be my last. Raspados are going to be the next thing I try but my trial run was simply for their fruit plate. After a weekend of less than healthy eating and drinking I was in need of something fresh, not heavy, and certainly healthy. A Mexican fruiteria fit the bill and my Yelp Collection already had Chuchees as a place that I needed to try done, and done. The plates of fruit were handed to me in a plastic bag that seemed to weigh a ton. There was no skimping on the freshly cut fruit and the portion size was enough for a lite dinner and a lite breakfast it's all I needed! No frills here, just nice people, serving the community with a quality product!
