Ice Blast Shaved Ice - La Jolla

I was born and raised in Hawaii, so I’m very familiar with Matsumoto's Shaved Ice. Since moving away, I hadn’t found anywhere that could compare—until a friend took me to Ice Blast. They are the ONLY place that can truly give Matsumoto's a run for their money. I highly recommend it! The prices are reasonable, and the portions are HUGE. I’m so grateful my friend brought me here!

I got a lovely pink flavor with condensed milk, which was a blend of strawberry, raspberry, and something else I can’t quite recall. My sister went with the Pina Colada, which came with condensed milk and ice cream at the bottom. We both enjoyed our choices a lot! I know the idea of condensed milk might sound odd, but give it a try—it’s delicious! I just wish there had been more of it.

This is a cozy little spot on Convoy that I've visited a few times. I've noticed there are usually one or two employees working, and while the process of shaving ice can be a bit slow, the end result is definitely worth it. I've never waited in line, but when I go with a friend, it usually takes about 5-10 minutes to complete both orders. Despite the wait, it's absolutely worth it. They generously pile the ice on top, layer it with adzuki beans or mochi, and offer a nice variety of syrup flavors. A word of advice: those portions are huge—get the small size (which is still about the size of your head) unless you're planning to share. It's incredibly tasty, and I might even say it's better than what you’d find on the north coast. The shave ice is fantastic!
