Puka Dog - KOLOA

I dined at this restaurant twice during our trip because it was conveniently located across from our hotel at Kiahuna Plantation. Despite expecting an overpriced hot dog based on reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I opted for the veggie dog, skipped the special sauce (as it contains dairy), and chose from a selection of fruit relishes such as pineapple, mango, coconut, and banana. I tried the pineapple relish one time, and the mango the next, and both were incredibly tasty! While the hot dog is served on white bread, I found it to be just the right amount and easily torn off to be dipped in the relish. I highly recommend giving this place a try while visiting Hawaii.

We came to this restaurant on an empty stomach, but I wouldn't suggest it unless you have a strong love for hot dogs or have no other options. The food was decent, but nothing spectacular, and we found the prices to be on the higher side for just one hot dog. The relish was tasty, but unfortunately, the sauces used were not vegan. It would have been even better if they offered a vegan option.

Charming beach atmosphere. Great place to get your veggie dog on. They will steer you away from the non-vegan garlic sauce. The others are amazing. Happy cow app said it was closed but we called and it was open for a couple more hours. So check on your own.

All fruit relishes mustards are vegan (all except the garlic secret sauce) they fill the large bun so you eat it like a hot dog popsicle. This location uses smart dogs which are fine, but nothing special. I had starfruit relish lilikoi mustard which was tasty. Overall, it was too much bun not enough veggie dog for my preference, but this is a good vegan option for anyone in the Poipu vicinity. FYI, this is behind (or next to) Poipu Tropical Burger near the far back corner of the mall. I had some trouble finding it...

I ate one veggie dog. Simple, good sauce, and good. I just think 7 dollars for one hot dog is a bit expensive.
