Trattoria Bennyssimo - Köln

I’m afraid this was not a good evening for me but it was as much down to me not speaking any German or Spanish as the owner not speaking a word of English,he had to get one of his kitchen staff to come and interpret everything and he was a lovely guy,the food didn’t come out the same as we were expecting and for the price I didn’t think it was very good value overall.putting this one down to lost in translation so I maybe being a little over critical on this place.

Arriving late in Cologne we were able to have a great meal with colleagues and stay beyond their openings hours. They kept helping us with a smile! Great place!

This restaurant serves very good, authentic Italian food. The complimentary bruschetta was excellent simple yet tasty. That set a trend for the mains. My pizza was a genuine Roma style thin crust and full of flavour. My wife's pasta was similarly excellent. Unfortunately the coffee was not of the same standard very poor. Service was the other let down. We had dinner on Friday evening with the restaurant less than half full. This should have ensured good, efficient service but unfortunately it did not. There seemed to be a level of confusion which started with slow taking of our order, delivery of drinks, and extended right through to the bill which the waiter having to recall from memory the drinks and dishes we had. The menu offers plenty of choice, as does the wine list. Prices are reasonable. That aside, the food certainly justifies a visit.

Just 15 minutes walk from Köln Chatedral is a small peacefull trattoria with good italian dishes. River "scampi" salad was excellent refreshing choice for a warm summer day. We did not experiment with other dishes but tagliatelle with bolognese was very correct. Panna Cotta was little bit germanized in rote grütze style. Very nice combination.

Great family run trattoria in the heart of cologne. Fresh pasta and great wine selection with warm personal service.
