Benfica Sports Cafe - Kitchener

I ordered a bifana and received a burnt chicken and cheese sandwich that was only a quarter inch thick. It had no paprika, onion, or sauce, and it took 25 minutes to be served. After we finished our drinks, we tried to reject the food and not pay for it because it was unacceptable, but the staff insisted we pay. We ended up paying for our drinks but not for the barely edible chicken sandwich. Additionally, the restaurant had a strange mix of Portuguese sports bar atmosphere and Indian music videos on TV, with little actual Portuguese influence.

The food was delicious, the prices were reasonable, and most importantly, the staff provided excellent service!

Benfica is a beautiful neighbourhood for mainly Portuguese men to collect and play cards over a glass of red wine, a cold beer or an espresso coffee with a shot brandy in it. it is also a popular place for them to come and watch football matches mounted on each of the numerous TV screens around the walls. However, if they are not a Portuguese man, they do not let that be a reason not to check the place. these youngs keep mostly on the back part of the caffe anyway. the front part of the caffe is more like a small restaurant with a menu of fast food (usually Portuguese nature) designed to entice them. the ladies on the personal are friendly and welcoming, especially alexandra, who seem to have more energy than most people and they are from a beer or serve an espresso almost before they have the pie from the mouth! but the crowning jewel of this caffe is her Friday morning special. every day they serve something different, from the octopus stew to the porch, to fresh cable fillets and more, each plate a signature dish from the old portugal. the pork ribs are some of the best I've ever eaten! the service of this special starts on the afternoon and it helps to reserve a plate before the time, but when they arrive at no time without reservation, they will likely be able to get one anyway. but if they wait too long, they may not be happy because they only prepare so much and if it's gone, it's gone. the prices vary, but if they are a beautiful glass red wine (ask for the brand lello, which is not available in lcbo and a tipp, they will see through.
