Bidrage med feedbackWe stayed nearby for the night and decided to get some takeout dinner from this restaurant. If you enjoy overcooked fries and chewy fish with nearly burnt coating, then this place is for you.
Simple fish and chips can’t go wrong, food taste good and generous portions my new chip shop after compos have gone down hill. Service can be a bit slow but worth wait
My dining experience was ruined by two young women working at the restaurant yesterday who made a big deal about me adding my own salt and vinegar to my meal. It seems that they find this to be unacceptable. It's a shame that their overreaction overshadowed my enjoyment of the meal. Fish and chips are already expensive these days, so the least the restaurant can do is allow customers to season their food how they like it. If they are concerned about hygiene, they could provide wipes or other solutions. Arguing over something so trivial is unnecessary and uncalled for. I recommend reconsidering the "salt and vinegar policy." In the midst of a cost of living crisis, only businesses that prioritize their customers' preferences will succeed.
We are on holiday over Christmas in beautiful Holmfirth and today decided to have a fish and chip supper after a 9 mile walk. The service was excellent. The young assistant was patient, polite and attentive. When the food was ready she asked for our preferences on salt and vinegar etc, packed our supper up and said “have a nice evening”. Faultless, well done. We got back to,our accommodation and began to eat. The fish was lovely. We had to remove the greasy batter because the fish was literally “swimming” in it (excuse the pun). The chips were absolutely disgusting! You could taste that they had been cooked in over-used oil and had a foul taste. Needless to say for £11.60 we ate batter less fish with no chips and would not return or recommend Hollowgate Fisheries.
Just dropped on these reviews when getting the phone number to order my Haddock and chips for my evening meal. Can't believe some them! I and my family rate Hollowgate fish and chips the best in the area and always freshly cooked. The batter is crisply fresh when you get them home in the insulating carton and not sloppy like I have had elsewhere. The small shop is immaculately clean and the staff pleasant and efficient. Hopefully some others who share my good experience will also write to balance things up bit. As a local I am not basing this on just one visit either. I have to drive past another fish and chip shop to go to Hollowgate Fisheries, so that is how highly I rate them!
