Bidrage med feedbackCame here to lunch with friends who live in front of places. as in the caption of this review, the food and service could not be mistaken, and with good weather, sitting outside, the views are wonderful.
At such a location deep in the Carinthian countryside, one expects rustic restaurants that usually excel by huge portions or low prices rather than by refined cuisine. “Höhenwirt” is not one of these. The first thing that impressed us were the perfectly renovated (or perhaps...newly built) façade, the elegant and bright main dining hall, the large terrace covered by a glass roof and shaded by awnings as well as the beautiful garden. The menu was equally elegant and offered a wide choice ranging from meat to fish and vegetarian dishes. It included many classics of the Austrian and regional cuisines, but also quite a few dishes that are less common, as e.g. porcini dishes. Nonetheless, the menu revealed that this restaurant provides classy, honest cuisine instead of experimenting with extravagant combinations. Of course, the prices to be paid for such a quality were higher than in “common” Carinthian restaurants. However, they were not exaggerated, but quite reasonable. For instance, most fish dishes cost on the order of 20 euros. This was not as much as it may seem given that all main courses included a salad to be chosen by oneself at a salad bar. With about a dozen different salads, it may not be one of the largest, but provided sufficient choice and, most importantly, they were all fresh and appeared to be homemade. We received our meals after a reasonable waiting time and they were served to all four of us at the same time, which may not be taken for granted. Everything was nicely presented and tasted fine, in particular the fish dishes. Overall, service was good as well, but in particular, one young member of staff was inattentive so that we had to remind him to carry empty dishes away after we had finished eating. At any rate, our lunch at “Höhenwirt” taught us that this restaurant might owe its name not only to its location at a hillside, but also to the culinary heights of its cuisine.
Waren auf Kurzurlaub in Velden und haben kurzfristig beim Höhenwirt noch ein Zimmer bekommen und das Abendessen war hervorragend. Bedienung sehr freundlich - Qualität der Speisen ausgezeichnet - Geschmack sehr gut....Danke für diesen wunderbaren Aufenthalt ... kommen wieder
Beim Höhenwirt kann man mit Blick auffiel Karawanken äußerst gut essen. Essen, Service und Ambiente sind hervorragend.
Ich fahr seit 18 Jahren an den Wörthersee und der Höhenwirt gehört seit Jahren zu unserem Stammlokalen. Es ist super lecker und es sind Portionen die mich satt machen. Da es uns so gut geschmeckt hat geht es heute noch mal hin. Wer den schönsten platz haben will bestellt sich den Tisch Nummer 13. Der befindet sich auf der überdachten Terrasse ist etwas vorgezogen und im Hintergrund sieht man dann den schönen Brunnen und einen unglaublichen Blick auf die Karawanken. Zu jedem Hauptgericht erhält man einen kleinen Salatteller dazu. Was ich nur empfehlen kann ist der Wiener Zwiebel Rostbraten und den Kaiserschmarren.
