Freshwater Grill - Kempsey

I used to avoid club food but this is fantastic food and a great venue for a family get together. My dietary requirements are never an issue and every one enjoys their meal. Will definitely return.

We ordered the pork belly, served with braised cabbage and apple sauce and barramundi with chips and salad. The cost with cheese/garlic bread was about $54. Service was quick. The bread could have been warmed more under the salamander, the barramundi was ok, but tasted like a different kind of fish. Chips were crunchy and tartare sauce was nice. My husband mentioned that the pork belly was not crispy enough. However, all in all we were pleasantly surprised. Normally we tend to avoid RSL clubs as they are mainly Asian run and we can't get a decent steak. This club however serves Australian cuisine and has a good, extensive menu. We would definitely come back to taste other things on the menu. The specials board looked interesting too. They did not have a dessert menu, but there is a café in the club which serves light meals (burgers etc) as well as your standard little cakes/tarts/smoothies etc.

A stunning location right on the Macleay river. What a delightful setting to have lunch by a window overlooking the river. It has recently been built/upgraded and the food selection and quick service were appreciated although it was a fairly quiet day. Would recommend visiting Ruby's to visitors.

Innitially I had trouble finding the place. Reading the previous reviews I expected a small restaurant by the river. After searching the surroundings of the RSL club it finally dawned on me that ruby's is actually the RSL club's restaurant.As previous reviews suggest, food was quite nice, well priced and the staff are friendly.If however you are looking for a fine dining experience with matching ambience Ruby's may not be for you.

Creative and great location we went with a number of friends with a car club, food and coffee was fantastic. Highly recommended and great staff.
