Taco Republic - Kansas City

Tacos! Just give me some chips, salsa, tacos, a nice patio, and cold drinks, and I’m happy. The Taco Republic has everything I need. They offer a variety of options to suit different tastes. It would be great if they had live music too!

They have DELICIOUS tacos. I really appreciate what they do with the tacos here, there are many creations and all tasty. The rice and beans are good too, as well as the chips and salsa. They have very thick chips, moreso than some other tortilla chips I have had. Greasy too. The atmosphere is also nice here, they've made do with the limited space they have on this corner lot, with a tiny parking lot. They don't have a drive thru at this location. I like that they have events too, they participated in the KCK taco trail and also held a taco battle contest for different taco recipes submitted by customers with a creative flair. The service is efficient and friendly, they seem to be bustling and busy a lot.

For unique street tacos and an open air dining experience, this is the place to go. The street tacos especially the Jorge and the Papi do not disappoint!

Visited this past week for lunch. Enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Salsa was good and I asked for hot sauce which was nice. I ordered 3 street style tacos. 2 chicken and one beef brisket. All delicious. I had both corn and flour tortilla. The flour tasted better to me. I liked the open air pavilion seating. Good service and prices. Street tacos sometimes are not that filling but these were.

I pass by this place at least once a week, so I finally decided to try them out. I came here on a Tuesday try grab some tacos and left a little disappointed. I ordered a shrimp taco and a fish taco with a side of rice and beans. The shrimp taco had way too many pickled red onions, so it overpowered the taco. I also felt like the flavors of the shrimp taco didn't go together. It just seemed like too much going on. The fish taco had the opposite problem because it was lacking in flavor. The fish itself needed more flavor and the guacamole was just okay. My favorite taco out of them all was the buena terra (hearts of palm). Surprisingly the taco with no meat had the most flavor. I enjoyed the avocado and jalepeno puree on the taco. The salsas weren't really good and although the beans were good, the rice was not. This is definitely more of a Tex-Mex place than a Mexican restaurant, but I was still expecting a better experience.
