Golden Ox - Kansas City

The service was great, and Will was great. The food was ok, and parking took 2 passes to figure out. The steak wasn't bad, but for $60, I was expecting more. I didn't finish the Blondie dessert as it was ok. For almost $200 for 2 people before tip, I was overall disappointed. The wine was good, and the old-fashioned mocktail wasn't great. Overall, it was ok. Nothing was great, but nothing was bad.

I had a one of my best friends from high school back in town for a weekend, who has been living overseas for 13 years, with a wonderful wife and family that are all vegan. I asked what he wanted for dinner, and he said steak. All I could think of was a great KC steak legend the Golden Ox. I’m old school and I like the KC original establishments. The service, both hostess and server were fantastic. Being Saturday night, we expected them to be busy. So, we showed up early and had a beer next door. They kept in touch with us, so we knew whether to order a second beer or hang tight. Once we got to our table in a private dining room, that was used as overflow that evening, our server was very charming, both attentive and engaging. I went filet, simply for the portion size and my friend had the bone-in KC strip. Both spot on amazing. The thing I like most about the Golden Ox is they are spot on whether it is Friday/Saturday night or a weeknight. I have been there many times with my dad during the week right at 5pm. And their service and steak was always spot on.

Amazing! KCs steakhouse mainstay. Service is fantastic.

My GF and i went On Friday 1/26/2024 and we sat at the bar and the bartender took forever for everything, we had to ask for menus, we had to ask for the appropriate silverware for our entrees, she took forever to box and we sat with dirty dishes infront of us for a while. My 6oz steak was ok had a lot of gristle running through it, i ordered The smallest steak cause i cant Eat that much. I was Bummed cause it was my first time there, be careful what you order .

Such a great experience and big life moment for my wife and I. Love it for future special occasions
