Bidrage med feedbackWe had been to the original Fumi's in years before and it was delicious. But we went on 10/18/2023 and it was terrible the different shrimp dishes were pre made so they could quickly serve the lemmings being shuttled in on busses. The shrimp was flavorless and cold (and so was the rice). My dish was probably cooked 30 minutes earlier because they simply handed it to me off a rack. Avoid. The Old Days are over, apparently.
Garlic shrimp is delicious. Japanese is a bit strange though. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Recommended dishes: エビフライ

TL;DR Cash only small faceless overpriced portions with no twist, or Waikiki prices without Waikiki flair just drive by. I ordered their $16 #6, or Tempura Shrimp. I received 2 small balls of unflavoured rice, 1/3rd of a small bottlecap container with sweet and sour chilly sauce, small maybe 2 bite sized piece of a pineapple and finally 6 tempura shrimps. Cannot say anything bad about shrimps, the rest was just basic bland stuff, all off the shelf with no chef involvement whatsoever. The place is busy dusty truck stop type spot, with no ocean or even decent mountain view to offer. The last piece to complete the picture was cash only service. I understand card transactions are not free and they reduce merchant 's profit but hey, lots of street sellers in Oahu accept cards at least with some type of low price cut off, usually $10. The owners of Fumis Shrimp are too greedy so regardless the order size they don 't bother. Bring cash or go away. Do I need to add that there is no ATM anywhere nearby? Anyway, it was a huge disappointment, I really wished our tour operator did not bring us there!
I 'm sorry, I don 't really understand the hype. The shrimp was OK, but nothing particularly special and too pricey for the quantity served. We actually had a much better experience later at Big Wave Shrimp, which gave a larger serving and their shrimp was much tastier. First, the location has moved and re branded. They are no longer Fumi 's, they 're actually Tanaka Shrimp , and now occupy a large space with generous outdoor seating about 100 yards up from the original Fumi 's Shrimp shack/shopfront. It looks like they do a lot of tour group business, and I 'm not sure if this has diluted the quality of the food. We had pretty optimistic expectations going in because of all the rave reviews, but it was a disappointing meal. We got the butter garlic shrimp and the spicy butter garlic shrimp plates. Both plates came with about 6 7 pieces of shrimp, generous scoops of mushy rice, and a piece of pineapple. Personally, for the price, I think getting 6 to 7 pieces of shrimp is a little skimpy. The shrimp was fine, but not great. To my understanding, the shrimp should be fried before it gets drenched in the garlic butter sauce, but Fumi 's shrimp tasted more like it was just boiled or lightly pan seared before the sauce. The shell was hard, the shrimp was gummy and a bit bland/flavorless. The butter sauce helps a lot, but it tasted like the sauce was just poured on after the shrimp was cooked. Not very exciting. In comparison, the shrimp we had at Big Wave Shrimp Truck was deep fried and the crispy shell of the shrimp served there absorbed up a lot more garlic sauce, making for a much tastier preparation. The shell at Big Wave was so crispy and fried all the way through that you could actually eat the shrimp whole, shell and all! I would recommend skipping Fumi 's and trying a different shop as you can see, I personally recommend Big Wave!
