Bidrage med feedbackFood tasted nowhere Malaysian. Chicken satay was sweet to taste, tofu satay was nothing but large chunks of tofu grilled and garnished with some chopped greens, the char koay teow best unspoken about. The roti of roti chanai (pronounced incorrectly by the restaurant crew as kanai instead of chanai) was nothing better than a crudely made paper dosa. Coconut water was out of the fridge, probably stored for a week or over. The curry mee and veg fried fish were the only two dishes that were palatable. All this coming from a Malaysian. I've lived all my life in Malaysia.Wouldn't go there again.Vegetarian options: They carry vegetarian dishes but nothing I would recommend. Perhaps the saving grace was the battered and fried veg fish
The problem with this restaurant was the front greeter. My sister and I came to try this place out for the first time. We ordered and food came quick no problem. I 've had better, food was about a 6.5 to 7 out of 10. Our problem came when we split the check and my sister wanted to cover the entire tip on her card. So I signed mine with no tip . She added the entire tip on her card. It was 15% of the total for both of us. The lady came back to our table with my receipt put it in front of me and asked why, loudly, I left no tip. I explained to her to look at the other receipt and what we chose to do. WELL that was not good enough! She was confrontational and said but look it 's 2 separate checks and was the service not good enough. This lady 's goal was to embarrass us in front of the entire restaurant! I know this because my sister asked her plainly are u trying to say you want more money because if that 's the case I 'll give you more money and the lady said no. But also did not just say ok no problem and walk away and stayed in front of us as we are trying to leave and repeating herself. In my opinion no one is entitled to a tip but a fair tip was left. She wanted us to go by the 18 or higher percentage suggested on the receipts and leave tip on each one. We thought 15% was fair. To purposely try to embarrasse people in to giving you more money is a disgrace! ESPECIALLY when the food is just ok. It 's money hungry and disrespectful. Pay your servers a livable wage and stop harassing people for more money that you are not entitled too! Something like this has never happened to us before. In any other establishment. I wouldn 't be surprised if it was rooted in racism as well just to make us seam like we were cheap trash . We offered more money for her to stop and she wouldn 't take it and. Just wanted to make a scene and embarrasse us .. also I am 9 months pregnant. This was so upsetting.
A hidden gem of Jersey City. The food is delicious and the staff is so nice. I love it!
Authentic Malaysian food!! Made the trek here on a whim and was absolutely blown away. We had seen another reviewer complaining about the soup broth of the prawn mee and that did not deter us one bit. It’s an acquired taste and Mamak House nailed it! Perfectly savory with a hint of sourness. All the toppings, from the pork slices to the beansprouts and fried shallots, were spot on, except that you wouldn’t get such large prawns from the average hawker.Everything else we ordered was great! Would give the satay a miss if you’re picky flavor was right but the pieces were too large and less charred than I’d like.Highly recommend and will be back for more!
The place is clean, good service. Love their foods. Great place to have small party. Reasonable price. Parking no problem.
