Bidrage med feedbackWe wanted to find a local Italian sandwich place within walking distance. I ignored the negative reviews and gave this place a try. Bought 2 sandwiches. Both were underwhelming to say the least. They tasted like stale bread and deli meat, and bread was too oily. Espresso tasted okay but way to small. Zucchini pie was too salty and lack of flavor. Can’t believe we had to wait at least half an hour for the poorly slapped together food. None required cooking. I couldn’t help but wonder if the business did it on purpose to make it appear that it’s a hit place therefore people don’t mind waiting? For this area, Dulce de Leche on Central Ave has better food. For Italian sandwiches and bakeries, we will continue to drive to Palazzone 1960 in Wayne.
Bread and Salt is such a rare treat. The bread is incredible, and a loaf lasts an entire week, yielding first great bread then toast then croutons and bread crumbs. Of course if you get Rick Easton’s cookbook you can make his delicious “meat” balls (3 kinds! , stuffed peppers, papa Al pomodoro, etc. The donuts are perfect with an espresso in the morning, and so far I have had the onion focaccia, the tomato and the zucchini- all outstanding. I look forward to this bakery opening on Friday all week, and the sandwiches are delicious- my favorite so far is the fig, Gorgonzola and salami. The ones I have had are all made on crispy, olive oil-y focaccia. There is usually a small line but the line conversations are great for menu suggestions, and you can usually have a coffee while you wait. Luckily I live close by but I would drive from Manhattan for this place!!
Went to see if this spot was worth the hype, and sadly it was not. Pizza better than average for sure, but nothing to write home about. The amount of cheese on the pie was anemic, and the crunch was totally absent except for the crust edges. Way too much flop. Razza makes a better pie, as do a large number of other places in NYC (Scarr's) or further into NJ. Skip this if you're thinking of making a special trip.
Their focaccia dough is no joke. Can't wait to come back for the pizza. My partner liked caffe lecese (shot of espresso over homemade almond cream), but i was less enamoured. The espresso was great though.
Incredible bakery! The whole loaf bread is absolutely delicious! (We stopped going to Balthazar in Englewood sorry Balthazar! We buy one almost biweekly, slice then freeze them. Staff in the store are very friendly and super chill. ?
