Taiwan Style - Jermantown

The beef burrito here is a must order!! So delicious and savory. We also tried both the original and dry luosifen. Both were quite flavorful and very filling but I preferred the soup version. Unique spot with dishes you can't find elsewhere in the area!

Location is prime, good amount of parking spaces considering it's inside of a plaza; however, the service could be better. The actual establishment inside is slightly dirty and had kind of a bad stench. My husband and I walked in on a Friday night to try this place as it had just opened up recently, but we just ended up ordering some dishes and canceling them one by one because it was taking forever. Don't get me wrong, if it's busy and bustling, we get it, we can wait for the food; however, there were 2 other couples in there and they had already gotten their food so we didn't expect the wait to be as long as it was. Upon entering, we were seated. Fine. We were given menus, also fine. We were looking through the menu and picked out a few dishes of interest, when the server came back to grab our orders she said that the main chef had left and they were unable to make certain dishes, ok, that's fine... (tip: maybe put on the menus or at the very least notify the customers that certain parts of the menu are closed off as the main chef is gone after a certain time). We ended up just ordering a spicy beef noodle dish, the popcorn chicken and another appetizer. AGAIN, waiting is no problem... waiting is fine, we get it. But when we ordered our food and 25-30 minutes have passed and we still haven't gotten our food, but a FAMILY that came 20 minutes after us and got their food before us, that was kind of unexpected. As minorities, we don't really like putting race into the mix ever, but I couldn't help but feel that the servers of the restaurant were more drawn to the folks that spoke their native tongue vs us who didn't speak their language. I honestly got pretty frustrated and told my husband that I wanted to leave. When we asked how much longer our food would take they said that they had just started our noodle dish and appetizer and that the popcorn chicken would be out soon. My husband then got frustrated and said to cancel everything except for the chicken as it was coming out soon. We took our snack and left. The service isn't there, but maybe it's because it's still new and they need some training. The food, well the popcorn chicken was good, which is why I gave this place 2 stars. Would I go back to try to food? Yes. Anytime soon? Probably not. I might give it 6 months until I go back.

Food is okay. Bunch of friends from the region of China where the noodles are from and we went and tried and they gave the thumbs down. The food is average. My issue is the quantity of food for the price paid. Almost $20 and no meat. A bowl of pho is $3-5 cheaper with much more meat. Noodles from Lotus Garden Yu Noodles Shi Miao Dao is a better option.

Drove past Yanzi Noodle House and decided to give it a try. The restaurant was clean, and the chef and her family were very welcoming. We were seated and the entire staff offered different recommendations based on what our preferences were (a rice dish and noodle dish). We ordered the beef burrito, beef brisket Luosifen (chef's special, which was featured in the Washington Post), and roast pork with marinated egg. The food was served quickly in about 15mins. The staff encouraged us to use the different sauces on the table. The mild spicy was not spicy at all, extra spicy had a good kick, and the homemade vinegar was delicious. Overall it tasted like the food was made to order and with fresh ingredients. However the flavors were slightly lacking for my liking. The friendly staff made the dining experience for me and made a lasting impression. They were so friendly, attentive, and personable!

I commend Yanzi for their welcoming staff and their service. The menu was quite overwhelming, but I was given a friendly breakdown of the foods they offered as well as their recommendations. The restaurant was clean and the staff were timely in providing the basic dining necessities and checked in frequently. For my visit, I passed on the Chinese noodle dishes (which they specialize in) and decided to go with the Roast Pork with Fried Egg (which I replaced with a marinated egg) and their Beef Burrito (which was advertised on their wall with a review from the Washington Post). The Roast Pork with Fried Egg had fresh-tasting ingredients but the dish, as a whole, lacked flavor. The Beef Burrtio, however, did not disappoint. The Washington Post review of the Beef Burrito is warranted and I highly recommend this dish. I understand I'm reviewing a noodle house without having tried their specialty dishes, so take my review with a grain of salt.
