Bidrage med feedbackAlways excellent, best fish and chips in Ryde. Lovely family run business. Highly recommended. We walked from Bembridge just to get lunch here.
Good quality fish and chips freshly cooked to order. We had the large fish and large chips where we found the chips were too much for a person. Please note the price on the board is for large fish and small chips which I think...is plenty for a person. We went there around 9pm and the place was so busy. The best think is they don’t serve from the cabinet. This means we have to wait a bit but we get the freshly cooked food. Could do with a bit more table and chairs.
I am a fan of cod and chips. I have to say that our cod supper from here that’s how we north Irish refer to fish chips regardless of the time of day) was truly great and also good value at £7.25. Their delicious...cod was steaming hot, fresh and pure white with a remarkably light, crisp, thin batter. The chips too were perfectly cooked. All we needed was salt and declined the wedge of lemon. It’s a quirky take away place and it’s menu illustrates why I have a fondness for the ordinary British subject they aren’t citizens). I mean who else will serve you deep fried battered cod, haddock, scampi, chips, battered deep fried, Cadbury creme eggs £1.5 each) with vinegary pickled eggs, pickled gherkins and pickled onions as well as offering vinegar, tomato ketchup, gin cocktails and Asahi Japanese beer? Sherry is the best alcohol for great fish and chips but it’s nowhere to be seen here. Fish and chips was the only food not rationed during world war 2 Prime Minister Churchill a great leader in the face of hell called them good companions and determined them a meal so valuable to British National morale they could never be rationed. And they are back to a war time economy in the 21st century with rampant inflation. The British voted to make themselves poorer and left Europe. It’s an odd situation as the very rich and the poorest voted leave, with the former as always acting out of insatiable greed and the latter as always from poverty based desperation. The former will be still further enriched while the poorest will begin to realise they’ve been misled and shafted by a mendacious political party and disgraced prime minister who indecently lies as easily as he breathes and quotes Arnie Schwarzenegger hasta la vista not Churchill but I say good riddance. But British woes will continue as his two potential replacements are far down the scale of mediocrity and the damage caused by him and his disgraceful like is immense. I suspect even fish and chips will soon be beyond the reach of many of those who voted leave.
Heard good things about this place. Food was disappointing. Cod tasted stale. Batter was greasy and soggy. Chips were undercooked.
I recently visited the cod father and they were pretty busy, but got my order ready efficiently. The food was delicious and staff were very friendly, would 100% recommend.
