Bally Hoo Restaurant - Isla Mujeres

This restaurant prepared the fish we caught for two meals. It was AMAZING. They cooked it 6 different ways on a platter. The owner was a wonderful man and he came out and talked to us and put our picture on his website/Facebook page. Highly recommend this place. And it is so comfortable - beautiful view and breeze and great margaritas!

We love this place! Odd that it is behind the gas station but once you walk in the restaurant the driveway is forgotten!!! We come for the ambiance. We come for the view and watching the fishermen bringing in their catch. We come for the fish and chips, the ceviche, the guacamole and the calamari. We come just for an afternoon drink and the breeze. We have met and had some wonderful conversations with people from all over who share their love of this island! We have brought our catch and they have cooked it to perfection with sides for a very reasonable price. The staff is very nice and the bartender is very friendly and has been there forever! A must do!

Great guacamole for appetizer and grilled garlic fish & nice view of sunset. Daughter liked chicken tacos. Son liked fried fish.

We were staying at the hotel associated with Bally Hoo so were interested in spending time and money there. The staff was not terribly friendly nor helpful. And we still haven't figured out how the restaurant works. It seemed each time we asked to order, we would be told the kitchen was closed, but then see food delivered to other people, sometimes in take out containers. We were starving! We would have been happy to get our food to go. But there was no clear communication or service to help us understand what was happening. When the beers ended up being pricey too we stopped trying. A shame, because it's a beautiful location with a lot of promise and (ODDLY considering the difficulty getting food) a very large dining area under a palapa with a numerous tables and chairs. Lots of space!

This was our first time on the island and we almost missed going here. Lucky us that someone insisted we go. It wound up being our favorite place when we considered the food, service and overall ENVIRONMENT. Give it a try - hope you have as much fun as we did. Not fancy, just fun.
