Bidrage med feedbackWhat a great visit to the Bergrestaurant Alpstubli at the top of Gitschenen. We climbed the steep (but manageable) trail from St. Jakob in about 2 hours to get to the top, with lots of stops to gaze at the incredible views. We were pleased to find wonderful service from the owners at the restaurant at the top. The beer was cold and a great reward for our efforts. They spoke excellent English, and answered all of our many questions. They let us try their Swiss horn (the owner was much better than we were!) Thank you for your great service!
We truly enjoyed our stay at Gitschenen, including a wonderful meal in the Alpstubli! We felt that the selection was perfect, but almost all of us (we were a group of eight) took the daily menu, since this included salad and dessert for a great price. The service was excellent and super friendly and the atmosphere very cozy without feeling too rustic.I can also recommend the whole area as a wonderful unspoilt area to do some great hiking. We were at Gitschenen for the night in between a two-day hike from Klewenalp to Oberrickenbach, both beautiful hikes without being overly stressful. We stayed overnight at Kneiwies, which has rooms to rent and where you can sleep in straw for a very unique experience!! I also recommend Kneiwies, where the people, who recommended the Alpstubli, were also really wonderful.
Gitschenen is a beautiful hideaway not known to too many tourists (even Swiss). Take the teleferic from St. Jakob to Gitschenen. As it can take only 8 persons a time (the ride last about 8 minutes) waiting times are can be quite long. Just a few steps away from the teleferic station is the Restaurant Alpstubli in a newly built chalet. The view is fantastic and it has a very nice terrace. They have just a few menus but what they offer is excellent regional kitchen. Moreover they even have a wine from Canton Uri (that is where Gitschenen is located). But the best is the friendliness of the people who serve there which makes it a real experience.
