The chain has multiple locations throughout the Indianapolis area, including inside IU Hospitals, Methodist, and various spots in Lilly's. While I appreciate the convenience, the coffee often carries a burnt taste, which is disappointing. I've started going next door to the deli for a simple cup of coffee with flavored cream instead. The pastries at Copper Moon look delightful, but the muffins and cookies I've tried have been rather stale and not worth the indulgence. I occasionally give them another shot, but I consistently encounter that burnt flavor.
Copper Moon is a place I have frequented often due to its convenience and limited alternatives. However, I've recently decided that I would prefer to wake up a bit earlier and brew my own coffee instead. Honestly, I could overlook many aspects of this establishment, but the coffee is simply unacceptable. It's so bad that even the mystery coffee in an office break room tastes far better. Once, before I realized how consistently poor it was, I actually made the trek back to return my drink, believing something had gone terribly wrong during the brewing. Surely, a coffee priced similarly to Starbucks couldn't be this weak. Could I have possibly gotten a cup from a faulty machine? Nope. The employee was very kind and replaced my coffee right away with a fresh cup, but it tasted just as disappointing. I typically find adding sugar to coffee unappealing, but I've occasionally resorted to it in order to get some caffeine, just to choke it down. I recently learned that Copper Moon produces K-cups, and the sheer audacity of that revelation nearly left me speechless.
This coffee shop is vastly overpriced for both the quantity and quality of what they offer. I typically don't drink coffee, so I can't comment on that, but their small cup of tea is about three times what it should be. The last time I tried to buy regular yogurt, it was nearly three dollars, which is 200% more than the standard price. Everything here costs a fortune for products that are neither exceptional nor high-quality. The only item I find worth purchasing is their soup. The location I visit serves soups, and that's really the only thing I allow myself to get from this place. Aside from that, I’m steering clear of this shop.
On the positive side, the portions were generous and reasonably priced, and the service was cheerful and quick. So if you’re not too particular about your coffee, this could be an option for you. It’s definitely a bargain compared to Starbucks or other coffee shops nearby, like Caribou in the IUPUI Campus Center. It really depends on how much you’re willing to spend for quality coffee. As for my ratings for caffeinated drinks around IUPUI and the nearby medical education institutions, they are as follows: 1. Einstein Bros. Bagels coffee in the IT building 2. Caribou in the Campus Center 3. Starbucks in Barnes & Noble at IUPUI (although I haven’t tried the Starbucks in the bank building next to Eskenazi Hospital yet, I assume it’s better than Copper Moon, which serves freeze-dried instant coffee). 4. Copper Moon World Coffee By the way, where are the Asian-style bubble tea or fruit tea drinks on this campus? How about some watermelon-flavored or ginseng tea? And where’s my boba? Such a miss!
After a long day of driving, there’s nothing quite like enjoying a cup of coffee. I was excited to discover a new option: Hawaiian coffee. Unfortunately, they had run out halfway through filling my cup, so I had to choose a second type of coffee to complete it, opting for my old favorite, Mexican. Surprisingly, the Hawaiian and Mexican blend turned out quite tasty! I also picked a cranberry muffin while my daughter chose some grapes and cheese. They always offer a great variety of muffins, biscotti, and small portions of fruits and cheeses. This quaint little kiosk in Riley's Children's Hospital is a delightful spot with a little something for everyone, plus a friendly and helpful staff. It’s always a challenging trip to the children’s hospital with my daughter every few months, but this place certainly makes the day a little brighter.
