Cafe Papillon - Iaşi

A waiter approached us in more than 10 minutes since we got in. He asked us if we want menus. We asked for menus an he never came back to us in the next 15 minutes. Since there are so many places to go in Palas, we just left. All this happened in the presence of the manager, I guess this is the policy lately.

10 minutes for someone to bring us the menus. 30 minutes and the waiter didn't come to take the order. We just walked out.

We visited twice while we were in Iasi. The location overlooking the Palas mall and Palace of Cuture is incredible, as is the atmosphere which is beautiful in a European style. Prices are very reasonable, and a surprise given how elegant this place is. We had coffees and either croissant/juice as their morning special for 5 lei each. It's a total bargain. The bathrooms are gorgeous too. The waitstaff are very nice and helpful, too.

To start with, on an overall, I would without any hesitation rate this venue as the best I've ever visited Romania, and one that I make sure to re-visit anytime I am in Iasi. Which is a bold statement, but even having lived and tried all the applauded places in Bucharest and some in other parts of the country, they can't come close to this. First of all, it's the decor that really puts the cherry on the cake in this instance. The atmosphere and interior design are created with such good taste, that to me at least, they're something I haven't found in other venues of the same profile in the country.Secondly, no matter what you come here for, it will satisfy the savviest of clients. I have been here on dates, business lunches, drinks with friends and the atmosphere and service have always been impeccable. They offer a great selection of coffees, not just espresso creations but also origin blends for the ones who are very particular about their coffees. Great wine list, beautifully served as they should be. The food is superb, having dined here three times, once for breakfast, once for lunch and once for dinner. For the last two, I went for pasta dishes and have never been disappointed. The staff is very polite and will always comply to your needs. Cannot recommend this place enough.
