Mostly home made-salad drssings-the Blue cheese is unique and very tasty. Your meal will start with a relish tray a fairly standard salad with great dressings, then comes the sarma- cabbage rolls, and ravioli. Service is excellent when they are not swamped but that isn 't very often. It is still above average-at full tilt. That said, except at the holidays, you will probably not need a reservation. A wait in the classic old style saloon is not unpleasant and usually is enough time for one or two cocktails.. Good drinks. Some will regard the prices a little high. Most will say -well worth the price. It is one of local classics. The decor is not at all up to date and is part of the charm. When you ask a local person for the name of a good restaurant, nine times out of ten they will say Svilar 's.
It was fantastic in the 60s and 70s, and it remains just as great today.
This place was amazing about 20 years ago before it changed hands. I remember Ma, Mary (the cook), and Bob the bartender. It's unfortunate that people can't experience the original vibe anymore. You would pay Ma in the kitchen, and Mary would cut your steak when you ordered it. There were plenty of 9-ball games and drinking with Bob.
The food is fantastic—without a doubt, the best fillet you can get. My wife and I dine at this restaurant at least three times a month; it's definitely a local favorite! The service can be lacking when the place is busy, but if you visit during quieter times, you'll be truly impressed!
The best steak and lobster anywhere
