Captain D's - Hopewell

I had the worst experience at this restaurant. They typically ask if you want 5 shrimp, but I ordered a 4-piece fish dinner with 2 shrimp and 2 pieces of pulled pork. The staff member seemed overly hyper and even asked for a cigarette—who does that at a drive-thru? The fish was flat, much thinner than a quarter inch, and barely tasted like anything. It was full of grease, and the fries were a disaster—only about five cold, soggy pieces that were greasy and soft. I didn’t even get the right number of pieces. I was the only customer there, so maybe he shouldn't have been focused on smoking instead of serving food. Overall, the meal was completely inedible, and the portions were so small that it felt like it was meant for kids. I won't be returning.

Here’s a pro tip: the food comes out hot, so make sure to open the lids when you take it home to let it breathe and stay crispy! Otherwise, it might get soggy. If you're driving home, turn on your seat heater to keep everything warm. I ordered the 10-piece fish family meal, a 4-piece chicken meal, green beans, fries, hush puppies, and jalapeño poppers with fried okra. The fish was crispy, and the chicken was too. The green beans had just the right amount of flavor, so they didn’t need anything extra. The fries, hush puppies, and okra were all fresh and lightly crispy as well! The jalapeño poppers were also quite good. Just a heads up, the drive-thru speaker can be a bit hard to hear, so speak clearly and be patient – that’s more on management than anything else. Overall, I have nothing negative to say; I absolutely love this place!

The food was incredibly fresh and came with plenty of warm smiles from the staff! You get a lot of food for the price, and I was even able to take home some fried okra for my wife, who loved it as well. As for the atmosphere, it's Captain D's, so don't expect a live band or a lively crowd. It was nice and calm, with no wild incidents like you might find at Waffle House, which was a nice change. Overall, I’d rate it 13 out of 15 and highly recommend it!

Jada was fantastic! She provided outstanding service, and I will definitely be returning. Excellent job, Jada! The manager here is also impressive; he excels at treating every customer who walks through the door with care. It’s truly refreshing to experience such great customer service from the entire staff at this establishment in Hopewell, Virginia.

Very clean, service excellent. Food was great! Have been there several times and the food service have always been great!
