Home Restaurant - Hope

We were passing through Hope a little past lunchtime on a Monday. A friend had suggested we stop here, as it is a long-time favorite for him and his family. Even though it was past the lunch rush hour, the place was very busy and we had to wait more than 20 minutes for a table for 3. They don't take names, so everyone has to remember who was in line ahead of whom while they wait for a table of the right size. The entryway is small, so traffic gets a bit difficult as people file in and out. Once we were seated, things went along nicely, but even then moved a little slowly. The service was friendly and good, the menu offered a nice variety of traditional diner faire, and our food was very good once it arrived at our table. All in all, we enjoyed our lunch, but the whole experience took almost 2 hours, which was a long time, even for a good diner lunch. We had not anticipated it taking so much time. I suspect they are usually busy (popular,) so be prepared to wait.

This place had been around since 1953 and a poster out front said that First Blood was filmed on location at Hope and released in 1982; Stallone might have just hung out there. It's a diner in the true sense of the term, mostly comfort food on the menu. Looks like homemade pie is a famous item for this restaurant as big thick apple, cherry, rhubarb, and other pies were prominently displayed just inside the entrance. I wanted to try one, but the serving was very generous and I had to watch my weight. May be next time!

Friendly staff, great service, consistent good food. Great place for breakfast. The shredded hash browns are amazing!

Obviously a favourite of locals and visitors alike, they have a good variety on their menu. Portions are good, service is friendly and desserts are fantastic.

We arrived at the restaurant just before 10 am. Restaurant was full with a couple of vacant booths. Ordered our breakfast and after 1 hour, still had not arrived. Now I understand being busy, but over an hour after placing order? Not acceptable. When food did arrive, it was good but we won't be stopping here again. Not recommended if in a hurry. Waitresses were awesome. kitchen meh.
