Tsukuneya - Honolulu

I tried different Japanese cuisine here! The taste is very good and the service is even better!! Love it!

This place has become one of my favorite restaurants to go with friends or for appointments! This place was my first experience to try tsukune, and while I can't compare it with other places, in my opinion the taste is brilliant, meat is delicate, and they have many taste/jump options to choose from. While certain items may appear overpriced and smaller in portion, the quality and taste is great and consistent every time I go, so I think it is worth it when it is a party of 2-3 parts food. The staff is also very friendly! The atmosphere is very illuminated, but very soothing. It is a great place to visit when you look for a wine down and pamper with others. Definitely a hidden jewel for special occasions!

The food was amazing. Great selection, very tasty and well executed presentation. I think their food is much better than Jenya. But the service! Yikes.Unfortunately, the service was horrible. I had to get up twice to find the server to ask for drinks to be refilled. Server was quick when initially seated but disappeared after first order. Even after going to the front to ask for the server it was another 10 min before he returned. They would sure make more money if they had attentive serving staff. I wanted to order more dishes but by the time the server came back from hiding my food had settled and I was full. Maybe a good thing for me… certainly not for the restaurant.Had the server been a little more attentive I would have given this a 5 star rating. I mean the place wasn’t packed. There was no reason to not attend to us.So, my experience was…. Excellent food but seriously poor execution of service. I will go back, hopeful that I just got a server on a bad night. The food is that good.Parking: Small lot on side.

I enjoyed Tsukeneya. My favorite dish was the eggplant and agedashi tofu it was on a special menu, I believe. It was a little pricey but you do get more than the typical agedashi tofu serving.I also enjoyed the yakisoba though it came out last and we were so full already. Our server was really nice and at first he was attentive, but then he got busy and was absent when we needed things and/or were missing items. I don't think it was necessarily that he forgot us or was being lazy, he just had too many to tend to.There is a small lot in the back to park in but it was full so we found street parking. I'd return here.
