Bidrage med feedbackThe Holywell has had its challenges in recent years, but the new owners are determined to rejuvenate it. The newly renovated interior features updated seating and carpeting. While the rear garden is not yet open, the addition of stylish new furniture shows promise for a great outdoor space. There is currently a limited selection of beer, but this is expected to improve as customer numbers grow. The beers available were well-kept and reasonably priced. Food will be served again in the near future. It's important for us as pub enthusiasts to support our local establishments to prevent them from being converted into bland apartment buildings. Let's help The Holywell succeed by showing our support! Stop by for a drink and avoid a future of generic gastropubs.
This restaurant is not worth a single penny. The service is extremely poor. A group of us visited for the drive-through American diner night. When I got home and opened my food, I found a hair in my sandwich and nachos. I called to complain and request a refund, but was told "the chefs are bald so it's not ours." Disgusted, I asked to speak to a manager who promised a refund, but after 3 weeks of no response, I called again. Despite leaving numerous voicemails and emails, I have not received my refund. My attempts to visit the pub in person have been unsuccessful due to Covid restrictions. No one has answered my calls or responded to my messages. I will continue trying to get my refund, but I strongly advise against eating at this establishment.
I have been to this restaurant several times since they reopened, and the new staff are wonderful! The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and I have never had a negative experience there. Although I have not tried their food yet, I can say that their Guinness is consistently good and they offer a wide variety of Gins. They also have a separate room with a pool table.
Although quiet, The Holywell has always been a conveniently close pub to my house and thus an occasional stop off point for a pint or a pub meal. The new owners who took over in November 2019, however, have killed any chance of my returning. A reasonable pint of Pedigree or Doom Bar was always available at this traditional pub, but the people who run it now have seemingly decided to forego real ale all together, serving little but cheap lager, leaving The Holywell with possibly the worst drinks range of any pub in Hinckley. If that wasn't bad enough, the pub is cash only, meaning walking in an expecting to pay on card not an unreasonable idea in 2020 involves a secondary journey to a cash point. On my first visit I also encountered no ice available for spirits, and the bar staff giving change to the wrong customers. Hoping this was just opening weekend issues I tried again a few weeks later, to find the same ineptitude and terrible drink range. It's very sad to see a once popular town pub run so badly. I shan't be returning until somebody else takes over.
