A superb place for community gatherings. The food is first class, and the staff is wonderful.
Great food, great fun and great folks! If you love to mingle and love to eat then I would recommend the String Splinter Club.
What an awesome venue in the heart of high point. inside and out reminds me of my days in new Orleans.....atlantic coast highway ...the band....at .com.
Sometimes there is a destination so hidden, so known to the knowing few that those who are exposed to it on a regular basis simply take it for granted. Having grown up in High Point, I was one of those many with the String and Splinter Club. Out of this Club, many experiences have come ;memories to be Recalled upon for years to come. One such memory for myself began a lifelong journey in the career of media entertainment and technology, all while waiting in line for turkey the eve before thanksgiving 1999. Jake, a city visionary much like myself overheard my grandmother bragging about my student film, and without missing a beat I was offered my first unpaid) internship on the set of a Hollywood movie, all conveniently within a five minute drive of The Club, right here in High Point. Soho House this is not, Throw in the imagination inspiration and innovation of leaders of this hidden gym of a community known as High Point, USA and one might conveniently land a nice and slightly coveted) lunch spot at the String and Splinter Club. If one is in the Design business not just Furniture or Interior Design mind you) this power lunch spot puts Booth Two at the Polo Lounge to shame and that's from a former regular. Delightfully accommodating this is the fact while the food is filling, it's never too much, especially when coupled with service that the South is famous for. While the Legendary Comedian Groucho Marx once joked that he would never be a member of a club that would let him in, he never experienced the quality, almost oddly historic atmosphere of being a member of the String an experience that I'm certain would change his mind. Cocktails, some created by Guest Bartenders for those who are members) put many local speakeasies to shame, . Featuring convenient private meeting rooms in case you're keeping that Billion Dollar deal hush hush, but Hush enough to be scene. Throw in cool events like craft beer tastings Hosted by High Point's own Brewers Kettle proprietor) that cater to the young up and comers , as well as themed meals on off nights that put even the most elegant of tastebuds to the challenge in a manner that makes me glad I still take dates up there periodically. A club comfortable enough for Lady's Tea Groups, but just as Welcoming to visiting Celebrities, Dignitaries and Royals, all treated with Southern Hospitality High Point is famous for. Throw in a few Fringe Benefits, and the membership String becomes a one stop shop for the young up an coming future C Suite execs ,the retired living legends always willing to provide mentorship and all of us that are fortunate enough to enjoy a meal in a converted factory; itself an iconoclast to The city on the Highest Point of the Railroad. A place known to the knowing few as The String and Splinter Club. For KCRW, I'm Mike Hayworth next week we go Artsy, starting with America's Foremost Design Library , leading into a path of penny's.
