Bidrage med feedbackAs an Australia in Canada I had never seen how Maple Syrup was made, but Shaw's gave me a chance to experience the process. From walking through the forest seeing the tapped trees and buckets hanging from the trees, into the shed with the evaporator to see if turned from liquid to Syrup. Mr Shaw was more than happy to spend time explaining the process and the history of his family run business and the history behind it. A brilliant experience for anyone who wants to see how Canada's most tasty export is produced, and support a local family run business.
Decided on going to Shaws Pancake House in Oro-Medonte this past weekend for breakfast. Friendly family atmosphere, and great pancake breakfast. You'll leave very full especially if you order the 2 pancakes with sausages. Get there early, weekends are busy.
The current generation owner was wonderful and showed us through his plant and gave us an excellent overview of the Maple Syrup making process. We wandered around the Maple tree grove and watched the raw sap being extracted. After the production overview we tried their very yummy and great value pancake restaurant adjoins the factory. Great service with generational family passion...long may this continue!
Every spring, for as long as I can remember, we've gone out to Shaw's Pancake House to enjoy their fresh maple syrup and fluffy pancakes. Piping hot stack, two maple sausages, a big cup of hot maple syrup and a coffee. Heaven. This place still looks the same as it did thirty years ago which I just love. I can always count on its homey feel and pleasant service. Horse drawn sleigh rides can be had on the weekends into to maple bush and the big vats of maple syrup are almost always bubbling away. I just love this place.
This is a seasonal restaurant with maple syrup being made on site gathered from the maple tree forest. Open from 8 am to 4 pm. They serve premium lean sausages, french toast, buttermilk pancakes, maple baked beans, and home baking.Nothing fancy, a rather rustic dining room with friendly servers. Down home meal so bring your appetite. Open until April 20 but better double check! You can walk the trail thru the bush from 8 am to 4 pm daily on non-windy days or on weekends jump on a horse drawn wagon for a ride through the forest. Horse Drawn Wagon Ride Weekends 10 am to 2 pmThere is a little shop at the cash register so pick up some maple syrup or maple fudge to take home and enjoy.
