Mar Tea Room - Havering

Have used here a few times. But the last visit was shocking. Member of staff had gloves on slicing salt beef, then with same gloves on used the calculator and till. Then went back to meat! Tables not clean, and no table service. Sadly has gone down hill rapidly, and never open now.

Seeing as my first post was deleted. I just wanted to warn people. DISORGANISED, WASTE OF MONEY, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. My daughter and I travelled from 25 miles away for this and what a waste of time. My daughter wanted to leave half way through even though we had waited half an hour to actually get into the room. I persuaded her to stay so we played noughts and crosses and did mazes in the puzzle book we got given. My daughter and I attended the princess afternoon tea and what a disaster. Was supposed to start at 11.30 so we got there just before. Was asked to take a seat whilst waiting so sat at a booth upstairs. On the table was a set if straighteners still plugged in and hot and they remained there the whole time until a family member of the owner noticed and unplugged them and took them away. It only took about 20 minutes to realise. We finally was allowed to go downstairs at 12noon (half an hour late) and was very pretty yes but took a further 15 to 20 minutes to sort the music, seating etc out. My daughter and I sat down and took some pics and after a while sandwiches were brought down to us. For children there was only really jam or chocolate spread sandwiches unless they would eat blt, ham and mustard etc which I very much doubt. We had our sandwiches for about 15 minutes before the 2nd family that was at the party got theirs. Whilst they were eating the table collapsed on the smallest child and all the food/drink fell onto her. This happened again shortly after and the parent had to swap seats due to this. The princesses spent alot of time chatting, talking about a family members engagement and how she had not made any plans yet. Snow white was on her phone texting (see picture) whilst should have been entertaining the children. The children were then offered if they would like some sweets and the laces were given to the children by the princesses hands. They did not have gloves on and just hope They had clean hands although my daughter left her sweets anyway as she couldn't wait to get out. My daughter and I spent most of the time at the party entertaining ourselves as the princesses tried to play musical statues and dance but was not enough room to swing a cat and again princesses did not have a clue. To my surprise the party finished at 1pm still even though didn't start until 12noon so was highly disappointed. I contacted the lady organising it and explained I am very disappointed and agreed to refund me today (still waiting for that though). It was explained to me that this was her first party and sorry it was disorganised and that I should have mentioned it when she asked for payment when I left. I explained I didn't want to make a scene as was loads of princesses waiting for the second sitting upstairs. Very cramped and was no room to dance/play musical statues. We're walking from stairs to vault door to dance.

Awful experience. Staff were so rude, and spent most of their time talking amount themselves or on the phone. We ordered bagels which were tiny and not worth the £5 each we paid. The coffee I was given was just a big cup of milk! Horrible! Such a shame but I won't be returning. There are places in Hornchurch which are 1000 times better. Don't bother!

Awful service. So rude. Won’t be returning felt like I was imposing on them. Don’t waste your money. Never been to an establishment like this and made to feel so unwelcome. How they have a business is beyond me. Looked like the couldn’t cope.

I have been wanting to visit this restaurant because it looked beautiful from the outside and the staff seemed friendly. However, my experience on the inside was disappointing. The coffee was terrible, possibly the worst I have ever had. I watched the lady make it and she did it all wrong. Additionally, they overcharged me compared to the prices displayed on the wall. The cakes were also misleading, as they were not freshly baked but rather ordered in. The only exception was the bread pudding, which they claimed was made onsite. Despite its nice appearance, I would not recommend this restaurant as it is not worth your time or money. It is a shame because it is in a great location and could have been a charming local tea room. Hopefully, they can make improvements in the future.
