China Star - Harlingen

I read all of the great reviews and we decided to try the China Star Restaurant. Pulling into the parking lot, I had reservations; i.e. not a very fancy building, signage was faded, etc. and we almost did not go in, which would have been a loss for us!! We went into the restaurant and found it to be super clean, very nice people and THE BEST TASTING CHINESE FOOD ON A BUFFET I HAVE EVER TASTED!! SERIOUSLY…. THE BEST!!! For the last few years, we have been going to different Chinese Food Buffets and they have not been good. Not Here; THIS IS A FABULOUS BUFFET!! Such great quality of food!! The seasonings, etc. superb!! It is a 35-minute drive from our place, but, this will now be our spot; we have a few Chinese Buffet Restaurants within 10 minutes of us, but, believe me, the drive is worth it to us. Thank you China Star for the Great Lunch!!! Note: The Buffet is only for Lunch and then after that, it is a menu order. I’m sure they are both great, but, try to do the Lunch Buffet at least once…. WORTH IT !!

I had the buffet, so I can’t say how their menu items taste. The buffet was not good, chewy egg rolls, soggy sweet sour chicken, no rice available. I only have 2 stars because the staff were very nice.

Very clean and delicious food, had a great night out with my wife.Had not had Chinese food in a while, this place did not disappoint, everything was very tasty.

Ordered Kung pao chicken and combo lo mein to go. Meal portions were large but the flavor was not only very lacking but also did not taste like traditional Kung pao would normally taste like and all it consisted of was chicken and way too much onion.The lo mein was very mushy and lacked flavor as well and the egg rolls batter was oddly thick and also had no flavor. The gentleman who took my order on the phone and cashed me out was nice enough.For $30 I would without a doubt rather have Panda Express over the food I got here today.

The china buffet across the street closed down so I've gone here a few times. It's 50/50 chance that the food will taste good or not...sometimes you can taste the tap water the noodles are cooked in. Sometimes the egg rolls are stale. The floor is dirty but the staff are nice. Kinda expensive now. I believe I laid 15 per person.
