My fiancé brought me to Banh Troi Tau Pham Bang in the old quarter the other night without telling me what we were going to eat, only that it was a dessert. As we followed him down a small alley, we were served two large glutinous rice flour balls in a yellow syrup. The first ball had a citrusy and spicy syrup, while the second ball had a surprise black sesame filling. It was a fun and delicious surprise to watch the colors change as we ate. The second ball was filled with shredded coconut, creating a burst of flavors that worked surprisingly well together. This experience introduced me to my new favorite dessert at Tau Pham Bang.
The black sesame pudding dessert and black sesame mochi ball were both delicious. They were served in a sweet ginger soup. The staff didn't speak English, but they were helpful and friendly. They only accepted cash and you pay when you leave. Each bowl cost 20k - such a great deal for the quality of the food!
