You have a car, have spent the morning exploring the Iron Age ruins of Briteiros, want to visit the museum in the nearby town, but its closed for lunch and you are also hungry. I recommend you eat at 'Restaurante Chico D 'Agrela '. Best time is between 12 and 2 p.m. We enjoyed the grilled octopus, nicely cooked over an oak fire, and the Bacalhau a Casa. Yes there are hundreds of recipes for cod in Portugal, but this was very well prepared, tasty and quite generous. Cod is not one of my personal favorite fish, however, I really enjoyed this version, a local variation with fresh herbs and vegetables. We had wine, soup, bread, a bottle of bubbly acqua, a pudding, fruit salad, coffees, and the tab was 38 euro, which we felt was a very reasonable price for the amount and quality we received. The service was fine, though the English is limited, so have your little book of Portuguese phases and vocabulary handy for the menu, if you must. Cash only, so be prepared (not every establishment has the handy tableside card readers at checkout time). There is ample parking just across the street and the restaurant is clean and very nicely decorated. We were happy to discover it! Hope you will enjoy it, too! Then, off to the museum.
