Hands down the best Mexican restaurant around. My wife and I purposely plan our trips to Kentucky with stopping here as a must. We have had authentic Mexican from NJ to Arizona and this is by far the best we have had in the United States. Great atmosphere, great service and amazing food. Highly recommend. Yes, you want dessert, yes, get the fried icecream. Kid-friendliness: Server was great with our six year old. Also the menu is very kid friendly, eve. For those not looking for or into Mexican food.
The food was bland and tasteless. The waitress left and never came back. I went to the hostess to get hot sauce. While munching away on chips and salsa, I found a white hair in the salsa as I dipped my chip. I almost vomited then as I had eaten half my meal. I kept waiting for the waitress to return, but she did not. I finally had to leave because I was nauseous. I went to the hostess and showed her the hair. She tried to tell me it was a part of a jalapeno pepper. The manager was there. I asked to pay out. He asked if I wanted something else to eat. Uhhh...no. He sent me on my way without charging me, but I was nauseous for the rest of the day. Last time I go there to eat.
Went to see the live mariachi. After playing a couple songs they left to another part of the restaurant and soon after regular music played on the store speakers. The food arrived barely warm. Corn tortillas arrived cold. Cheese dip had no flavor. Salsa was just tomato paste out of the can with a bit of cilantro thrown in. Overall the food wasn't too bad but it certainly wasn't good. The server didn't check on us once after we got our food and had to actually be stopped in order to ask her to fix a mistake with one of our orders. Never going back. If you ever want to taste real food it's worth a 4 hour drive to Athens Ohio. If you're in the area give Gran Ranchero a try and you'll never go back to eating the food served at El Rancho Tapatio.
This has always been my favorite Mexican restaurant in Lexington. I’ve even had birthday dinners here, but tonight was awful! We had a Father’s Day dinner here and had my whole family. To start the dinner, our sever was rude and acted like a jerk when we asked for more chips. Then when my wife asked for more salsa, he brought us an empty bowl to split the salsa we already had. We were close to the kitchen, and any time we asked for anything, we could hear him back there slamming things around. Then, once we received our food, the portions were tiny and didn’t have much flavor. I had cheese dip enchiladas and paid extra for steak. You could have filled one small shell with what was inside two of the enchiladas. My dad’s fajita nachos barely had any meat. The dinner as a whole was pretty terrible. I may try it again, but I’ll definitely never sit in our servers section again!
