Parco Verde - Grumento nova

It is worth landing in Grumentum airfield, in the heart of Val d 'Agri (Basilicata) and then stopping here in Parco Verde : an amazing and relaxing place. Call them and they 'll come in the airfield by car. Time has stopped here. You can relax yourself, tasting wonderful food and wine, sitting under a fantastic oak tree 650 years old. Stefano, one of the owners, is a very kind person. Take a chat also with Walter, chef and one of the owners. Ask him about the history of his dishes, especially the 'Miskiglio ', an ancient Lucano recipe. Taste also his special salad, and don 't forget the medieval wine Polvere di Ippocrasso , with ginger and cinnamon. They also sell their traditional cheeses and a lot of other products of their land. By a few minutes walk you can go from Parco Verde to the Ancient Roman Remains of Grumentum! Don 't miss it!! You can also rent a car and go to Matera (Unesco Heritage) through unforgettable landscapes. I will return there...

If you happen to be near Grumento in the Potenza Province , give these guys a ring and book for an afternoon with authentic Italian slow food. And remember this is authentic slow food, not the usual PR pitch. We have been lucky to find passionate Walter , Stefano and Assunta taking us through every dish and made our culinary experience unique. Top cellar and their own spiced wine. Fabulous.

Parco Verde was home to some of our favourite meals in Italy. Without a doubt. Stefano and his family passionately prepared a banquet of dishes from the Bascilicata region. With jazz in the background, Stefano presents a surprise of delicious dishes (the grilled wine infused cheese with honey and cracked pepper was my favourite). As a couple staying in the Parco Verde bed and breakfast, we paid an extra €15 per person for dinner. Money very well spent with alcohol and mulled wine included there doesn't appear to be any decent other options in Grumento Nova village. Furthermore, Stefano kindly assisted me in tracking down relatives in Grumento Nova by organising a friend to meet us and assist with language translation. Many Thanks. Scrivo solo per avvisare che il locale attualmente è chiuso (da circa anni) nn so bene quando riaprirà. Peccato perché meritava tanto. Si mangiava bene e la location era veramente ottima. Speriamo di rivederci presto.

We absolutely loved this place. Beautiful outdoor setting and friendly service. The owner was passionate about their food and explained everything in detail. We tried everything on offer antipasti, mains and dessert. All were absolutely delicious. A must if visiting the area.
