Bidrage med feedbackFantastic bar with a welcoming atmosphere! The staff are friendly, prices are reasonable, and the pizza is absolutely delicious. They also have excellent happy hour deals!
As I enjoyed my drink, I noticed a #33 Great Neck North football jersey displayed on the wall, since the bar is located just down the street from my old high school. The dark blue shirt, adorned with white and orange stripes on the sleeves, looked exactly like the #31 jersey I used to wear back in my prime. (Yep, I played a little defensive back, uh huh.) The only other person in the bar, aside from myself and Kenny the bartender, struck up a conversation, saying, "Hey, I went to North too and played football. What year did you graduate?” It turned out we were both part of the same graduating class and played on the same team, yet neither of us could recall the other! (Yep, I must have been THAT good.) Interestingly, JP was the only guy I couldn't remember from that team. For the next half hour, we reminisced about those unforgettable Blazers, recalling players like Butler, Terence, Thaler, Lorenzo, and Berry. We had some real talent on that squad, and a few characters who were downright wild. Unfortunately, we let weed get the best of us, much to the chagrin of Coach Thomas, who was also our health teacher. We wrapped up our senior season with a disappointing 2-6 record. Aside from the Blazers jersey, the Baker Hill Tavern has a few other charming mementos. Along the main wall, there are dozens of black-and-white photos honoring the firemen, police officers, mariners, and other Great Neck locals who have made this bar their hangout for years. There's even a framed photo of the late, great Scotto's menu—best pizza in town, alongside Gino's, which is still in business. Those memories of shrimp parmigiana... As I prepared to pay my bill, my former teammate generously offered to cover my tab. It was a really nice gesture, and I left the Baker Hill Tavern for the first time, but certainly not the last. In a town that has changed a lot over the years, this place remains a true Great Neck classic.
This bar is nestled deep in Great Neck and has recently undergone a renovation at the entrance. It's a great spot to enjoy a beer, catch a game, or play a game of pool. You can also have fun with darts or beer pong. The bartenders are responsive to requests for which games to show on the TVs. Whether you prefer popcorn or peanuts, it's a nice touch to munch on while hanging out with friends at the bar. The prices are reasonable, especially for this area—$8 for a pitcher of PBR, Miller, or Coors is quite a deal. They also offer a full range of alcoholic beverages for shots and mixed drinks. Weekdays tend to be relaxed, while weekends see a lot of Merchant Marine students from the local school. It’s surprising that more people don’t come by to pick them up, considering they go through intense physical training like the armed forces. Overall, it's a pleasant place to sit back, enjoy a pitcher, and watch a game without breaking the bank.
Hidden Great Neck Gem. In a town not known for their bars/pubs, Baker Hill Tavern is a great place to grab a beer with some friends. The fresh popcorn/peanuts and assortment of games (Darts, pool beer pong) can keep everyone entertained, while the game is on the tube. This place is certainly not flashy, but it gets the job done in every way shape and form. If you live in the area check it out!
KP hangout. Great dive bar in the land of no dive bars. I wish this place were around when I was going to school. Come in and enjoy the atmosphere. Buy the cadets hanging around a pitcher of beer and you 'll have friends for life. Don 't expect white table clothes and champagne unless you mean 'the champagne of beers '. #KPS '91 #KCCO
