Bidrage med feedbackFor more than 20 years, our family has been celebrating birthdays with a St. Honore cake. The experience of picking up the cake, enjoying a coffee and croissant has become a three-generation family tradition. Today's St. Honore was meant to be a surprise for my mother from my sweet father. The service we received from the staff was outstanding, the coffee was excellent, and the pastries were some of the best you will find outside of France. The St. Honore was a perfect end to a memorable day. We will definitely be returning for many more birthdays to come. Thank you very much.
I am only reviewing the croissant at this restaurant. I enjoy having a croissant on a Sunday morning. Since we recently moved to Forrestfield, "Le Croissant du Moulin" was the closest place for us to get some good croissants. At $4.10 per croissant, I was expecting a very high-quality pastry that would transport me back to France while I eat it. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The croissant was too dense on the inside, not crunchy enough on the outside, and lacked flavor. If these are handmade croissants, more care and love should be put into making them. If something is priced at that level, it should be perfect and not just have a French name and baker to justify it. Also, the ability to pay by card would not be a luxury.
This is a popular place especially on Sunday mornings to have coffee and croissants. A lot of regulars cone here after the morning walk with the dog, a bicycle ride or just like that. The veranda is simple but the croissants are amazing! A little pricy with a croissant costing over 4$ but maybe I have the prices in mind from the last trip to Paris ;-)
Le Croissant du Moulin has been in the hills for many years and over intermittent visits dating back at least 25 years things have changed. The croissants are still great but the choice of bread is less with a personal favourite disappearing off the menu. I think it probably reflects the increased competition as more cafes open in the hills and the juggling act between ample supply and waste is tricky at any time. Moreover, while the locals know it is cash only, this can be an issue for the unaware drop in. The tradition French bowl of coffee for croissant dunking is still an attraction for purists, although they may also be a dying breed. The little sweet cakes are always tempting and the escargot, pastry not the gastropod, are a perennial favourite.
Fantastic coffee in a bowl & cakes were absolutely fabulous !!! Only negative is that it was cash only - which can be a bit frustrating Nom nom nom
