I agree with Patricia below. The thesis must be succinct, to the point, and you cannot add frilly and unnecessary words and still get to the point. Your topic sentence in that first paragraph MUST be your thesis. Then 3–4 sentences (no more than 7 or 8 words each) to support that topic. Then the next paragraph’s topic sentence will be taken from one of the supporting sentences above, and again building and supporting that point with 3–4 sentences of no more than 7–8 words each. Depending on the margins allowed for the essay, it may go onto a second page, or may note.
