Soulfood - Göttingen

This is where you eat delicious West African food the restaurant is not well signed and in the courtyard of a residential complex. The menu is limited to dishes the chef does very well. You can have vegan meal here. The atmosphere on the...terrace is relaxing and inside I;m told there is African music. The chef is expert at his profession. Students! I just arrived to Gottingen and was looking for a place to have a vegan supper. Read the reviews here, and decided to check it out. It's centrally located off the main street in a charming inner yard. It's not big (about seven tables) and...very cozy with African art on the walls and African music. There were three vegan options on the menu and what I picked was very good. Moderately priced: a vegan meal was and a few meat choices I saw on the menu cost The service was superb!

Walking from the North of town, the University area, to Theaterplatz towards the downtown area, saw a "soulfood" sign. Curious, I first saw.... a bar called Buddha Lounge! But Soulfood is just around the corner, a little hidden behind a cobblestone area. There are small tables, and the cooking area is in plain view. One woman cooks, advises, serves, charges, and obviously owns the place. It is decorated with lots of African art, and she obviously loves Africa. There is a very short general menu which is vegan, and a daily changing main dish menu with two meat dishes. The vegan part I tried was a lentil salad, which tasted wonderful, and a vegetable stew in peanut sauce (sweet potato, celery root, okra and others) that tasted so great I asked for ingredients and tried to recook myself. The wine choice was not bad either. And it wasn't expensive Euro for an appetizer, main dish, and wine.
