Absolute fantastic restaurant . As soon as i walked in the door i was greeted with the most upright respect and the atmosphere was lovely . we were seated and got our drinks and were able to order our food very promptly . Food was served surprisingly quick and looked absolutely delicious as was the taste ,just the way i had asked it to be . I was always made sure i was looked after even whilst the staff kept everything in check and kept the establishment running very smoothly . We were asked if we wanted deserts, we had caramel flutes which were absolutely delicious and served straight away to us . My overall review of this restaurant is a superb 10/10 for service , atmosphere , food and all over quality. I highly recommend everyone goes to this restaurant and tries it because you will all be amazed
Tale of two halves. I have lived on te southside all my life and up till February 2011 had never sat down in this joint, and it was twice in quick succession, but with differing results. The first visit was a Monday night, very quiet. Decor is modern but lacks real atmosphere and can be a bit echoey. We ordered starters of mixed pakora and satay chicken (in an Indian? . Pakora was lovely, huge portion, light crispy batter with nice dipping sauces. Satay chicken was bizarre. Basically chicken tikka pieces with garnish and some sort of paste covering it very lightly which tasted nothing of satay. But edible. Mains were a chicken Bhoona and a chicken madras accompanied with rice and a peshwari nan. Both curries were excellent the nan was gorgeous an the rice was rice. No deserts. We were stuffed and a doggy bag requested for the left overs. It was then we got talking to the very friendly manager, who had our mouths watering with recommendations of the house Korma, which was apparently very spicy and not like the kormas people are used to. And what about the Lamb Kahari, he promised it would. Be freshly cooked on the bone and the meat would be tender like nothing else. We had to come back to try this. So, two weeks later we returned, on a Friday night, the place was a bit busier but not crowded. We greeted the manager and reminded him of his promises of culinary works of art and taste. Starters this time were prawn cocktail and a fish pakora. Huge portions again but absolutely delicious. 'Are we ready for our mains? ' enquired the manager. Can you give us 10 minutes, such was the effect of the massive starters. So we waited and waited and waited and enquired about the whereabouts of our mains (the house Korma and the lamb Kahari on the bone 'it takes time to prepare the dishes ' we were assured. About an hour and ten minutes after we had finished the starter our mains turned up. Two ceramic pots with sizzling curries inside. Accompanied this time with a few Chapati 's (manager said they would go better with the curries as a peshwari nan would spoil the flavours . Better late than never I suppose. Time to tuck in, the Korma was pretty much as he had described hot and spicy and not the creamy mild sauce westerners are used to. Really nice. The Lamb on the other hand was shockingly poor. Very little curry sauce which was exceedingly bland. Four tiny lamb chop type things which had very little meat on them and was a battle to try and get the meat off. The lamb, to put it bluntly, was overbooked, tough, and sparse. This was nothing like what was promised. The manager, I think sensed our displeasure and asked how things were. Korma good, lamb Kahari tasteless. I left out the fact the lamb itself was poor as the manager looked genuinely shocked and shamed. I didn 't want to rain on his parade anymore. Oh and a peshwari nan would have helped as it may have added flavour to the dish. So, I like the place, but it was hit and miss on some things. Service was friendly and attentive but the gaps between courses were really bad they struggle with their timings. Would I go back? Yes, but only to see if they can redeem themselves and hopefully our second visit was just a glitch.
Great. Friendly service and great food. An institution and rightly so. Try it and love it.
Once we sat down n ordered drinks it was clear they were only serving one three course Xmas menu. As we didn't want that much (and they were sending out food deliveries, presumably not the xmas menu), we got up to leave. At that the owner came out and agreed to oblige us with what we wanted to eat. Very apologetic and our food was delish. The drinks however, doubled our bill so be aware.
