Bidrage med feedbackAnyways, after our hike up to Soames Hill, we stopped by Gibsons Pier. While walking around, we came across this small ice cream shop inconspicuously named Mike’s Place. It had great reviews so off we went!
We are recent Gibsonites Gibsonians or whatever locals are called and this place has been a slow burn. We started coming strictly for gelato and have expanded our horizons to bread, cookies and other in house made goodies including the coffee. It never disappoints! In fact, we are having a household debate if the gelato is better than Dolce Amore on Commercial Drive. We look forward to being long time regulars here.
Had the Italian wedding soup with the goat cheese cranberry chicken sandwich and a root beer. Oh man- let me tell you that I nearly rolled out of that joint. Oh, but it was most enjoyable. Most enjoyable indeed.
Chocolate ice cream with bacon! Need I say more?. I was in the middle of riding my bike from Vancouver to Sechelt (using the ferry, natch and I wanted some ice cream before I started up that looooooongh hill out of Gibson 's. (If you 've only driven that road via car, you don 't know what a **** it is. It was a sunny August day, and I would have been happy with something the (average quality of Sara 's. But wow was Mike 's good!<br/ <br/ This is for real gelato, all right rich and creamy, no airiness to it. I like the way Mike 's has the flavours laid out by colour in its display freezer all the chocolates together, shading into the lighter ones. Makes it easier to choose which combination of colour/flavour you 're going to pick.<br/ <br/ And what flavours they 've got! I went all Canuck, with a scoop of Nanaimo Bar and one called 'Canadian, eh? ' The Nanaimo was chocolatey, but with distinct swirls of the frosting flavour throughout, and lots of coconut flakes. But dig this the 'Canadian, eh? ' had bits of maple glazed bacon in its chocolate base. It also tasted like there was a lashing of Hershey 's syrup. Chocolate bacon ice cream FTW!!!
Highly recommend Mike's Place for gelato! An excellent Gelato, i was served by the owner's son-in-law, he and staff was friendly, I tried a few flavours, gelato was thick, creamy and yummm. I would request them to wear gloves when handling ice cones. (especially during Covid19). I tried other gelato places of Vancouver as well but they were no comparison with this place. Don't forget to try it out!
