Beluga - GENOVA

Went to this place upon the recommendation of a true Genovese...We were there for lunch and the place was filling up with locals (good sign) Service was slow and the guy seemed to have more interest in his cellphone vs his customers. The specialties of the day were heavily pushed (which I find ok for lunch). Unfortunately there were only 2 suggestions available... to me this seems a bit light for choice. Pasta with clams was ok, fish a la livornese was bland and boring. The bill was unspecified and opaque... 70 euros for 5 (one child) seems on the high side for a simple lunch. Knowing the prices of lunch in Milano... I am afraid we were ripped off Italian style... Too bad this still happens. Practices like this further destroy the -already bad- italian reputation for lack of service.

After a visit to a not very nice restaurant nearby, we were left hungry and decided to give Beluga a go. Simple grilled fish, very fresh, delicious. Very friendly and helpful waiter. One other restaurant we'd like to try tomorrow. If that fails, we know to come and eat here again.

Located inside the premises of the High school or so, next door to the students bistro, in a windy pass way. Pure decorated not in Beluga fish way) Slow service. The new meal I have tasted here is the fresh raw oysters heavily frozen and served like this

Absolutely no reaction from the waiter. Felt like he was annoyed that we were tourists. We left after we waited 15 minutes for him to come.

Had dinner there on the 21st of December 2021. When we entered the restaurant it looked very pleasing… took a look at the menu and thought “not cheap but interesting… the wine list was very poor and extremely overpriced on average 3 times what you would pay normally. Anyway, I ordered a pasta with crab meat and well I got a cold pasta swimming in oil with a distant and vague taste of crab. I was going to send it back but as I was with friends, to my distaste I swallowed it. The came the se one plate and easy local fish fry up. It was better but just. The fish was not fresh. Obviously nobody dared to take any desert considering the low quality of the food I did though order a coffe that never arrived (maybe for the best). The Came the bill. What can I say. A punch in the gut. Considering quality and quantity and poor service well it was scandalous. I most definitely will never go back there and would not recommend, and it is not that I am a tourist. It was c**p from my own city.
