We came across this little Italian gem by chance as we stayed in a airbnb flat next door. The fact that it was SMOKE FREE meant we were gonna eat there anyway, but the surprise was when the menu was explained to us by the...chef with a huge blackboard. He explained it well in English for us. All Italian dishes with fresh ingredients, some meat or fish is shown to you if you wish. we went for the Seabass for 2 with roast Italian potatoes and vegetables. We were delighted and were happy to wait the time it took, as we were warned it'd take 35 min.. The baked potatoes were divine, the fish (half each) was smaller than we expected as before it was buried under salt crust, but it tasted so fresh and perfectly cooked that who cares. I even asked her to show me the carcass and she did. Dessert was pear chocolate tart, and tiramisu, both excellent. We found it to be our best meal in Vienna at the end of 3 days so not sure why some reviews are bad.
Didn't like the board instead of traditional menu at all. The waiter explains what is written on the board speaking simultaneously german, italian and english. Difficult to get into details, but seems spectacular. We chose bone steak 1 for 2 with fresh salad and potato...(the portion was evidently for 1) and buffalo mozarella for starter (1 for 2 as well). Plus bottle of wine (22 euro). Total amount was 120 euro. Yesterday had our dinner in Plachuta it was also not cheap (150 euro with desserts and apperetives), but it was worth it! The service is just of a different level. Finally interesting, good for 8 district livers, tasty, but the prices should be lower.
I've had my share of Italian, but this place really impressed. I know service is all relative depending on where in the world you're from, but as an American, this was excellent. The owner came by to make sure everything was good which in itself...isn't necessarily uncommon, but I appreciated that he was proud and stood by his food. He is from Tuscany which is probably important for the authentic food. We had a group and I tried most of the dishes. Everything I tried was very good if not great. I was not actually all that hungry so this is an objective assessment. Sorry I don't remember all the dishes that were ordered, but it was all courses, drinks, desserts, etc. In Italian style, it took a long time to complete the meal, but I was among friends, the street is in the old center of town with low traffic, and the evening sky was beautiful. Great experience.
