La Lanterna - Gallinaro

I’ve eaten here a few times when I have visited this area of Italy and I have never been disappointed. The food is all very fresh and tasty and the prices are extremely reasonable. If you are in the area this is definitely a must try.

We ate here three times and enjoyed all three visits. The pizzas are excellent and among the best in the area. Portions are very generous. The home made deserts are worth considering; I enjoyed the zuppa inglese.

Title pretty much says it all, we come here as a family pretty much every year and it’s always been good fresh local food as well as good service. Will keep coming for sure.

I have been visiting this restaurant off and on for about 10 years. It is so consistently good that I have taken its qualities for granted. Starting with the staff: Paulo, Alessandro and Daniele (the owner), all are highly professional and attentive. The food is excellent, particularly the fish: spaghetti alla vongole, frito misto and risotto alla pescatore, though the pasta dishes are up there with the best. I have never been disappointed with a single meal, though I haven't tried the pizza, which I'm sure is excellent. The house wine is easy drinking and typical of the area. We have visited La Lanterna with friends and none have been disappointed. The restaurant is hugely popular and during the Summet booking is a good idea. There are quite a few restaurants in the beautiful Valle Di Comino, but few maintain the consistency or good value of La Lanterna.

The best pizza I had in Italy during this visit. What raised it above the rest was the base and this was due to the loving preparation the pizza chef put into working the dough. I watched as she prepared the base. She took a lump of dough, flowering her hands and flattening the dough slightly. She repeated the procedure several times until the pizza was the right diameter. I have seen other pizza cooks just take a rolling pin and roll out the dough. I don't know if it really makes a difference but these pizzas seem lighter and softer, containing the right amount of air making them quite. delicious on the palate when combined with the toppings.
