Zapata's Mexican Restaurant - Fremantle

I love Mexican food and this one advertises on the menu that all their meals we're available with vegetarian options. I chose the IQ bowl which advertised meat. Black rice. Bean salsa. And guacamole. And asked for the veggie option. I think it was around $14.50. All they did was leave out the meat. My son who took the meat option got far more than me. I asked what they were using as a substitute for the meat and was told I had a little extra guacamole. Very disappointing as a few beans would have gone a long way to make this nourishing.

I like the atmosphere of this place, very colorful and they even have a dance floor! They have really good pico de gallo (Mexican salsa as they call it on their menu) and yummy chips. The presentation of our fajitas was excellent. The quality of the meat was not top notch, you could tell. My husband ordered a margarita that took over 20 minutes to arrive (we were the only ones in the restaurant) and it was seriously the worst margarita I have had. I don't think they even used the right ingredients, it was so bad. It tasted like watered down coconut water with some bad tequila. Plus, we had a normal meal with one margarita and 3 beers. Our bill came out to be over $100. Not worth it AT ALL. Won't be returning, unfortunately.

My Aussie friends have no idea what real Mexican should taste like, so invited me on several occassions to join them to Zapatas for half-price nachos on Tuesdays.... The tortilla chips were stale like cardboard on all occassions, and the "salsa" was put on before the nachos went in the oven, so everything was a big soggy mess. To be fair, this seems to be how all places in Australia make nachos, but it is definitely not worth your money to come here, even if the nachos are half price!

The service is friendly and prompt but the food :-/ Had the chicken nachos and my partner best described the chicken as "Heinz canned chicken". The guacamole was also quite average. The portion size is small and definitely not worth the price. This restaurant was definitely a let down.

As locals we had walked past this restaurant many times without giving it much thought. Our mistake! This place is fantastic!The dips were fresh and to die for! Tacos, burritos wholesome and tasty and the chicken in mustard sauce WOW!!!Our verdict We'll be back amigos
