Bidrage med feedbackMy brother and I had Monday lunch at the National on what turned out to be a nice sunny winter day. As we expected the place was relatively quiet, but it gets busy later in the week. We headed for the second floor balcony and discovered that ordering was downstairs at the main bar. So back down we went again. I ordered the Kraken Rum dark and stormy pork belly with potato fondant, house smoked bacon, pickled red cabbage, broccolini and Kraken rum and ginger jus. I wanted a white with my pork and the lady at the bar was helpful and gave me the two Rieslings on offer to try; I went with the dryer option. My brother had the wild mushroom risotto and the cloudy cider. We took our drinks upstairs again to the balcony where the view of central Fremantle is a treat. Our food arrived nicely presented, but could have been a little hotter. My pork belly was cooked well with nice crackling, and the jus was deliciously decadent. Nice atmosphere here last Monday ( Public holiday). Freo was weirdly quiet for a public holiday however this place was pretty full upstairs. We started with the (chicken wings with ranch dressing) Very disappointing as they were meant to be spicy ,but were not at all. The clams with bread crumbs was also not very exciting. (To be honest not bad but you would not order again, and portion size was a bit poxy.. The best part of the meal was the National burger. Yum so moist and tasty. really good. Would we return ? I don't think so. !!
Became regulars after two years patronage, spent a fortune weekly, enjoyed happy hour and the delicious chips. My friend got turned down one day after her first drink during happy hour due to 'taking advantage of happy hour specials'. Generally when you're twenty and your income comes from terrible waitressing jobs/centrelink, you buy about 6 drinks during happy hour (that's why it exists - right?). However, being turned down after one drink and being told you can be served after happy hour finishes is bullshit. I believe the point of being a pub is that you actually serve people alcohol, or am I mistaken? God damn, I spent thousands of dollars at this establishment over the years because happy hour was ace, and also the reason someone as poor as me could be happy, however I am very unhappy now, and also have no reason to go back. May as well go to Clancy's, or any other pub that actually serves alcohol to the patrons. Shocking, isn't it? I will miss the groovy... read more
Not bad pub grub. Definitely not the usual oily chips and thick battered fish and chips. Happy Hour 5 to 6 is amazing. Definitely cheapest drinks prices in Perth ever evening. Good vibe. Good band at night. Great spot to hang out with friends. The chips are good!
