Jinroku Pacific - Fort Shafter

I found this restaurant to be disappointing. Despite apologizing for poor service, they did not provide any discount on the bill. The food was subpar and I have had better meals at gas stations. Comparing the two almost feels like an insult to gas station food.

It appears that frozen seafood was used at this restaurant, resulting in a smell and lack of freshness. I am confused as to why a 20% gratuity was automatically added to my bill. I believe tipping should be left to the discretion of the customer.

Food is generally average. It's worth a visit if you're tired of steak or fish. Yakisoba and kimchi fried rice are okay. However, the seafood (especially shrimp) has a strong fishy taste because it was frozen. The okonomiyaki was sprinkled with too much teriyaki sauce, probably in an attempt to drown out the flavor of the ingredients, and the seasoning was strong, and the pickled ginger broke the balance. Please note that likes and dislikes may differ. What detracts from the score is the service and table condition. They arbitrarily tip 20 percent, so the chair bursts and cotton flies out. However, one black waiter was very friendly. To summarize, the food is okay, but it's easy to be offended by the service. That's about it.

In Honolulu for several days, we enjoyed this small Japanese restaurant near Waikiki immensely. The other patrons were mostly families suggesting to us a loyal local following. Main menu items new to us included okonomiyaki (cabbage based omelets with toppings) and negi yaki (green onion based omelets with toppings). We ordered sauteed garlic scallops as an appetizer, seafood negi, and garlic yaki soba with shrimp, squid, garlic, and chives. Our most helpful waiter recommended Kubota senju sake... dry, light and refreshingly cold. Citrusy sorbet complimented a fabulous dinner. We found our meal to be a delightful spectrum of tastes and textures. The service was simply excellent.....friendly, inclusive, responsive, and patient. This was a superb experience.

Poor service. We order two dishes. One arrived in about 10 minutes but it was cold. Waited for the second dish. Asked the server, who told us that the kitchen made an error. They will cook it now. We cancelled the order and went to close by restaurant.
