Bidrage med feedbackStill best Mochi on the island but I just wanted to add that I tried the peanut butter Mochi recently and the limited edition strawberry filling Mochi and those are both WOW! New faves for sure :
When I want mochi this is my go to place. It's conveniently located behind Mr ojisan (former sanoyas) in the shared parking lot with Minato's. It's a one way street though but sometimes I don't wanna go all the way around to south king lol. They have seasonal items and come out with cool flavors to try mochi and manju. They also have assorted lihing gummies and senbei. They recently came out with green apple dango so I wanted to try... Got the mixed pack it had strawberry, blueberry, banana and the green apple. It does taste artificial but I love their dango it's so soft and just sweet enough! Love to support loc businesses too.
Stop by Fujiya Hawaii (930 Hau'oli Street) for your Japanese Hawaiian style wagashi sweets mochi (Japanese rice cake made of mochigome), chichi dango (mochiko dessert confection) and arare (rice cracker flavored with soy sauce)! I picked up some ono lychee mochi, sweet potato, pumpkin, red bean, white bean mmm! They have matcha and peanut butter red bean too! Every flavor of dango you can imagine and lots of senbei (sweet rice cracker) and arare! Snack heaven!!
This shop was simply amazing. There are a few parking spots in front of the shop so it was pretty easy to find parking. The shop front is pretty small and they have a giant window so you can see into the kitchen. They sell a wide variety of mochi, daifuku, and other treats. We had such a difficult time choosing. But we ended up with a small pack of two flavoured mochi (mango and coconut and a few different daifuku. A lot of them are packaged in pairs but when we asked the staff, they said we can buy individual pieces. For the individuals, they went to the back to get them and box them up for us : Overall, the mochi texture is super soft and tasted fresh. The flavours are subtle and not very sweet. My favourite would have to be the strawberry or the lychee one! (Whole lychee fruit wrapped up in pink mochi Wished we had more stomach space to get more next time!!
TL:DR Probably the best mochi you can get in Honolulu. The chichi dango is soft and well flavored. The lychee bites are my favorite and I've never had anything like it before. Tucked away on a side street in Moiliili in a non descript building is Fujiya. They serve up mochi, dango, senbei, and other smaller snacks. They have a ton of different flavors, melon, Japanese grape, lychee, banana, strawberry, and so forth. I'm a s for good mochi and have been doing a tour of all the other mochi shops on the island. When I stopped by Fujiya I picked up a ton. Here are my thoughts on each of them. Lychee bites A mochi exterior with some white bean paste and a piece of lychee on the inside. Super sweet and juicy. Loved it. If you love lychee, this is a great treat! Mandarin Cream Mochi exterior with what I think is half a mandarin and some whipping cream of sorts on the inside. The flavoring was incredible! Sweet and smooth, with a nice texture. Tsumami Mochi exterior with white bean paste on the inside. A very generous filling of white bean I might add. Sweet but not too sweet. It was a little bit on the softer side for me, but still delicious. Chi chi Dango I got melon, Japanse grape, banana, strawberry, and haupia. If you had to imagine the ideal flavor of each of these, that is what it tasted like. A perfectly ripe honey dew melon, or haupia that has just the right amount of creaminess and coconut. That's what each of these flavors brought, their optimal most impressive taste. I was impressed with each and would recommend trying all of them. Overall, Fujiya delivered on great tasting mochi and dango. I would highly suggest coming here for mochi. Just be sure to check their hours before coming, there were a couple of times I showed up and they were already closed.
