I wasn’t expecting such good food. The atmosphere is good. Small town feel. Friendly staff. We had a larger group and they handled it well. The bbq was top notch. It’s off the beaten path and parking takes a little but it’s worth the effort. Nothing in life is free. So park at the church behind the place half a block and get yourself in there. You need the walk anyway. Especially after the good food.
Læs mereHad one night in Fort Hills and picked the right place for dinner. The food was excellent. The vibe of this place is hip but casual. I sat at the bar since I was traveling alone. The draft beer selection was good. Had a local IPA that was brewed next door. For dinner I had the platter which comes with two meats and two sides. I had the pulled pork, which was heavily seasoned, but full of flavor and melted in you mouth, and brisket which was the opposite. Imo good barbecue shouldn't be ruined by sauce, but the brisket needed it--dry and flavorless. Gave me a chance to tryout their sauces I guess--which were okay. Wouldn't have minded so much but the brisket is 5 dollars more. For sides I had the sweet potato fries and jalapeno grits. Both were excellent. The fries were waffle style with a special seasoning that took them to another level from plain salt. They were meaty but still crispy. Hard to beat. My server suggested the grits which I wouldn't have normally tried. They weren't spicy but still flavorful and creamy. Lastly the meal came with a hush puppy with a yummy sweet onion sauce that topped it off. If I ever get back to Fort Mills I'll be dining at the Improper Pig again.

Holy cow was this place amazing!! We got the bbq charcuterie board and got to sample some of the best bbq I have ever had. And I'm from Texas! Six kinds of bbq sauce, my fave was the vinegar based Carolina style, but we tried them all and loved them. The lovely staff even sold us a few bottles and are going to ship them home so we don't have to travel with two bottles of sauce. The pork roll was out of this world. Brisket melted in the mouth, pulled pork was succulent and flavorful, and the ribs. Dear lord those ribs will haunt me forever. Might have to swing back by to grab some on the way out of town. Highly recommend. Food is amazing, service was swift and friendly, and the vibe was chill and laid back. Good beer too. I would give this place all the stars!
