Bidrage med feedbackI was there Friday afternoon, May 05, 2005 and had the best Cuban sandwich I have ever eaten. The service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. I wish we had La Carreta in New Orleans.
This is the only airport restaurant we hope to eat at, arrange our schedules to arrive or depart at lunchtime, tell our friends about. We understand that it's owned by the same family that owns Versailles and the main La Carreta in Little Havana. Try the white bean soup (caldo gallego) or the ropa viaja. Plan to share with a friend, as the portions are humongous. Since it's a cafeteria line, you can just point to what you want.
I attended the 2006 Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show and purposely flew into Miami instead of Fort Lauderdale so I could enjoy a meal at La Carreta while waiting for my flight back to New Orleans. I discovered this restaurant a few years ago when I asked an American captain for recommendations on where to find Cuban food at the airport. He told me that La Carreta was the only place in Miami for Cuban cuisine. After visiting Miami several times and dining at various Cuban restaurants, I can confirm he was right. La Carreta truly is the best, and as someone from Louisiana, I have a good appreciation for great food!
I highly recommend trying the Cuban chicken rice—it's the best rice I've ever had! If I could, I'd eat there every day. The prices are great, and they serve generous portions, so you definitely won't leave hungry. The chefs really know how to cook!
If you're not feeling hungry, you'll still want to eat here... It's the best option at the airport!
